Amerks use third period to beat Senators

The Rochester Americans scored three times in the third period to power to a 3-1 win over the Belleville Senators Wednesday night at Blue Cross Arena.

Daniel Ciampini scored for Belleville in his return to the line-up while Danny Taylor stopped 21 shots. Sahir Gill scored twice for the Americans and Zach Redmond also found the scoresheet while Linus Ullmark made 31 saves.

Tied 0-0 heading into the third, the Senators managed to kill off an Amerks 5-on-3 power play but moments after the penalties expired, the hosts took a 1-0 lead through Gill as he tipped in Andrew MacWilliam’s point shot from the blue line at 3:20.

Rochester doubled its lead only 1:02 later as Gill scored his ninth of the season before Redmond made it 3-0 at 12:21 with a shot from an acute angle against the boards.

Ciampini spoiled Ullmark’s shutout hopes with a minute left as he buried Colin White’s centering pass for his third goal of the season.

Belleville went scoreless on five power play chances while Rochester couldn’t convert any of its six opportunities.

The Sens are back in action Friday night as they host the Syracuse Crunch and tickets are still available by clicking here.
