Senators beat Americans in overtime
Jordan Murray scored the overtime winner as the Belleville Senators beat the Rochester Americans 3-2 at the Yardmen Arena.
Belleville also had goals from Ethan Werek and Max Reinhart while Andrew Hammond made 21 saves. Taylor Fedun and Hudson Fasching scored for Rochester while Adam Wilcox stopped 32 shots.
Murray scored his fifth of the year as he buried the winner on the power play after Chris DiDomenico drove the net before sending a pass to Murray who wired a wrister past Wilcox with 1:42 to play.
With the teams tied 1-1 heading into the final 20 minutes, the visitors took its first lead of the game at 9:04 as Fasching scored his seventh of the year but one he knew nothing about as Colin Blackwell’s shot on goal hit Fasching in the leg and beat Hammond.
But the Senators got the tying goal with just 14.7 seconds left as Reinhart deposited a rebound after Wilcox couldn’t control Nick Paul’s shot for his seventh of the campaign.
The Senators got off to a flying start, playing arguably its best period in a week as they swarmed Wilcox and were rewarded when Werek bagged his ninth goal of the year at 6:40 after he patiently outwaited the Americans goalie before beating him blocker side.
Belleville continued to pile on the pressure in the second but couldn’t solve Wilcox and the Americans made them pay by finding an equalizer with 1:25 left in the period as Fedun converted a 2-on-1. Belleville nearly grabbed the lead after 40 minutes but Max McCormick was denied by the post with under 20 seconds left in the frame.
Kyle Flanagan secured his first point of the season as he assisted on Werek’s opener.
