Thomas Chabot scored the first goal in Belleville Senators franchise history but the Sens lost 6-2 to the Laval Rocket Saturday night.
The Sens (0-2-0-0) had built a 2-0 lead through Chabot and Chris DiDomenico but Laval (2-0-0-0) hit back with a second period surge to take a 3-2 lead, and one they’d never relinquish.
Danny Taylor made 36 saves for the Senators while Andrew Hammond stopped four shots after entering in the third. Charlie Lindgren made 17 saves.
Chabot scored the first goal of his professional career at 11:11 of the first on the power play as he rifled Christian Jaros’ pass by Lindgren to secure his name to history.
Belleville took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission and extended it at 7:27 of the second as DiDomenico tapped home a rebound with the man advantage.
But the Rocket came flying back as Stefan LeBlanc, Peter Holland and Markus Eisenschmid all scored in a six minute span for a 3-2 lead after 40 minutes.
A turnover in front by the Sens allowed Nicolas Deslauriers to set-up Niki Petti for his first pro goal at 6:43 of the third before Holland grabbed his second goal of the game at 8:25, forcing Taylor from the game.
Jeremy Grégoire scored short-handed to complete the comeback.
The Sens went 2-for-6 with the man advantage while the Rocket converted once on four chances.
Belleville is back in action Friday night when they travel to the USA for the first time for a match-up with the Syracuse Crunch at 7pm.
