Sens end Crunch winning streak in overtime

Max McCormick had the overtime winner as the Belleville Senators ended the Syracuse Crunch’s nine-game winning streak with a 2-1 overtime win at the Yardmen Arena.

McCormick skated in on a two-on-one and buried a wrister short-side at 2:14 for his sixth of the year.

Belleville had goals in regulation from Jim O’Brien while Taylor made 18 saves. Mitchell Stephens scored for the Crunch with Connor Ingram turning aside 23 shots.

In a first period featuring few chances, the Crunch grabbed the lone goal through Stephens as Taylor only got a piece of Mathieu Joseph’s shot leaving the puck laying on the goal line for Stephens to poke home at 3:22 on the power play.

Belleville found its equalizer with 1:05 left in the second period as O’Brien scored his 10th goal of the season on a breakaway as he beat Ingram five-hole.

Taylor played in his 150th career AHL game while Sens captain Mike Blunden registered his 150th career AHL assist.

Belleville is 6-0 in overtime this season.

The Senators are back in action at the Yardmen Saturday as they host the Laval Rocket on Country Night. Tickets are available by clicking here.
