Sens open 2018 with shootout win over Devils

 

 

Gabriel Gagne had the shootout winner as the Belleville Senators beat the Binghamton Devils 3-2 in their first game of 2018.

Belleville had goals from Nick Paul and Max Reinhart while in his second start of the season, Marcus Hogberg made 35 saves. Ben Thomson and Brian Strait scored for Binghamton while Eddie Lack stopped 32 shots in his first start for the Devils since being traded.

Entering the third down 2-1, the Senators tied the game at 2-2 through Reinhart’s sixth of the year with 8:20 to play as he deposited Francis Perron’s pass past Lack.

The Devils struck first through Thomson as his quick shot off the face-off flew by Hogberg for his second of the year at 10:43.

The Senators found its equalizer in the second through Paul as he roofed a rebound on Lack after the Swedish goaltender couldn’t hold onto Jordan Murray’s point shot at 4:39. However, Binghamton re-took the lead at 15:32 as Strait’s point shot found its way through traffic to notch his second goal of the campaign.

The Senators will hit the road for two games but returns home Jan. 10 for the first of three games in four days as they face the Rochester Americans. Tickets are available by clicking here.
