First period dooms Sens against Moose
The Manitoba Moose scored three first period goals as they beat the Belleville Senators 4-1 Wednesday night at the Yardmen Arena.
Manitoba had goals from Darren Kramer, Michael Spacek, Nic Petan and Mason Appleton while Eric Comrie stopped 29 shots. Danny Taylor made 19 saves for the Sens while Max McCormick scored.
Former Senators draft pick Kramer opened the scoring 5:23 in as he forced a turnover in the Senators zone and beat an unsuspecting Taylor five-hole for his first goal of the season.
Spacek’s seventh of the year made it 2-0 Moose at 12:24 of the first as he buried a power play opportunity right off of the draw after Jamie Doornbosch had been penalized. Petan made it 3-0 with 3:18 left in the period on a strange deflection in front of Taylor.
After a strong pushback by the Sens to start the second they fell further behind at 8:18 as Appleton buried Petan’s centering pass for a 4-0 lead.
Belleville finally solved Comrie, and it came short-handed, as McCormick grabbed his second shorty of the season on an odd-man rush after taking Jim O’Brien’s feed with 1:06 left in the second.
Patrick Cormier had three assists for the Moose. The teams split the season series 2-2 with the road team winning all four games.
The Sens are back in action Saturday as they welcome the Rochester Americans to the Yardmen Arena. The game will also be Bell Lets Talk Night as the Sens will continue to raise mental health awareness ahead of Bell Lets Talk Day on Jan. 31. Tickets are available by clicking here.
