Hunter Shepard News Release Share this Sens complete hunt for help in goal, sign two-time AHL champ Shepard July 2, 2025 Ottawa Senators general manager and president of hockey operations Steve Staios announced today the club has signed goaltender Hunter Shepard to a one-year, two-way NHL contract. Shepard, 29, appeared in 39 games for the Washington Capitals’ American Hockey League affiliate, the Hershey Bears, in 2024-25, with a record of 23-11-4, a goal against average of 2.80, and a save percentage of .891, with three shutouts. He also dressed in seven Calder Cup Playoff games in 2025 and made one NHL appearance with the Capitals. An undrafted player and a two-time Calder Cup Champion with Hershey, the former AHL All-Star has played in 118 AHL games, all with Hershey, compiling a 78-26-12 record, a 2.22 goals against average, and a .914 save percentage. Shepard was named the AHL’s playoff MVP in 2022-23 and was the league’s goaltender of the year in 2023-24. Prior to turning pro, Shepard played at the University of Minnesota-Duluth, where he won two NCAA titles, multiple collegiate accolades, and captained the Bulldogs in 2019-20. His career NCAA numbers include a record of 76-37-5, a goals against average of 1.94, a save percentage of .922, and 17 shutouts over 119 games.
