Daoust helps drive Belleville Sens win streak with timely offence

October 18, 2022

For Belleville Senators centre Philippe Daoust, his first American Hockey League tally is a milestone he won’t soon forget.

“It was an unreal moment,” Daoust said of his first career goal. “Honestly, it was a great play by [Jayce Hawlyruk] coming down the wall and seeing me on the two-on-one. I got my stick lifted a little bit, but I stuck with it and got a shot on the net, and luckily it went in.”

It’s likely the first of many in his professional career. Throughout his Major Junior career, Daoust was known as a major offensive contributor. Last season, in a Memorial Cup-winning campaign with the Saint John Sea Dogs of the QMJHL, he notched 47 points (24 goals, 23 assists) in 38 appearances. Much of that offence is expected to translate once he gains experience at the AHL level.

Daoust undoubtedly has the ability to play at the next level. More importantly, he has competitive focus, team skills, and a strong individual skillset. For instance, Philippe remains humble when the media or fans mention his successes. Daoust is always quick to credit his coaches and teammates.

“It’s always nice to have points, but the main goal is to put up wins,” Daoust said. “This past weekend was great for our team, and we’re getting closer every day.”

In total, the 20-year-old native of Barrie, Ontario, has collected three points (one goal and two assists), helping Belleville to a 2-0 start for the first time in franchise history. Evidently, the CAA Arena faithful hope that Daoust will continue to help drive an early season winning streak with his skill and offensive prowess.
