Game Day Build-Up: Senators at Islanders – December 12, 2021

December 12, 2021

The Set-Up:

The Belleville Senators had a solid start to their four-game road trip on Friday, picking up a 4-1 win against the Bruins in Providence and they’ll look to try and continue to build momentum today in Bridgeport against the Islanders. Head Coach Troy Mann said postgame that he felt his team played a “complete 60 minutes” and noted that as a key to success moving forward through the rest of the trip. The Islanders, meanwhile, have struggled through the first part of the season amassing just seven wins so far and just two in their last 10 games. However, following an close to week-long break due to AHL COVID-19 protocols affecting their opponents, the Islanders picked up a 5-4 win over the Toronto Marlies, at home on Saturday night.

Previous History:

Belleville has a chance to sweep the two-game season series this afternoon, following a 3-2 win over the Islanders at CAA Arena on November 13, when Roby Jarventie scored the game winning goal. A win would also even the Sens’ lifetime record against Bridgeport, which currently stands at 3-4-0-0 and 1-2-0-0 at Webster Bank Arena.

Roster Notes:

There are just a couple changes to who’s scratched/dressed for Belleville, compared to Friday, with Jack Dougherty getting the afternoon off in favour of Xavier Bernard. Mads Sogaard is still on the short-term injured list and won’t dress, but Matt Murray has gotten over the minor ailment that had caused him to miss Friday’s game and is expected to start, with Kevin Mandolese backing up.

Who to Watch:

Forward Roby Jarventie is playing his final game with the Belleville Sens, before leaving to join Team Finland for the upcoming IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship in Alberta. The youngster hasn’t had a point in his last four games, but did have four shots on goal on Friday night in Providence. A few Senators also snapped small pointless streaks in Providence including Jake Lucchini and Egor Sokolov, who are looking to heat up again.

For Bridgeport, veteran forward Chris Terry is riding a six game point streak and had two points (one goal, one assist) and five shots on goal last night. Austin Czarnik is also on a four game point streak and had three points on Saturday.
