Game Day Build-Up: Senators at Marlies – January 1, 2022

January 1, 2022

Presented by Carpenters Union Local 397

The Set-Up:

Despite nearly breaking a franchise record for shots in a game, the Belleville Senators return from the holiday break was spoiled by the Toronto Marlies on Thursday night. Belleville put 47 shots on Joseph Woll, but the Marlies still came away with a 5-2. The good news for the Senators, is they get another chance at the Marlies on Saturday afternoon in Toronto, as they turn the page on the calendar and open the 2022 portion of this American Hockey League campaign.

Previous History:

Toronto has won all three games of the season series by 5-2 score lines, with two of those wins coming in Belleville and one in Toronto. Belleville has a 22-19-2-2 record lifetime against the Marlies, with more than half of those wins (13-6-2-1) coming at Coca-Cola Colesium.

Roster Notes:

There are a few changes for the Senators from Thursday’s loss. Roby Jarventie returns from the World Junior Hockey Championship in Alberta, where he appeared in one game for Team Finland, with Cody Goloubef also re-joining the B-Sens. Colby Williams is back from COVID-19 protocols as well, while Hugo Roy (on a call up from Atlanta) will also dress this afternoon. Belleville’s scratches today include Jack Dougherty, Phil Daoust, Kam Kielly, Mitch Hoelscher, Chris Wilkie, Tyrell Goulbourne, Mads Sogaard and Jonathan Aspirot.

Who to Watch:

Senators forward Rourke Chartier returned to the line up on Thursday after a 20-game injury absence and netted a goal on a rebound. That gives him a three-game point streak. Cedric Pare also has points in three straight games, while Scott Sabourin has three points over the last three games.

For the Marlies, speedy forward Brett Seney is riding a four game point streak, while Josh Ho-Sang continued his strong play against the Senators with another goal on Thursday. He’s scored four times against Belleville this season.
