Game Day Build-Up: Senators at Moose – March 12, 2022

March 12, 2022

Presented by Carpenters Union Local 397

The Set-Up:

It was a wild start to the Belleville Sens weekend trip to Winnipeg, as they came back from a 3-1 deficit to beat the Manitoba Moose 4-3 in a shootout on Friday night. Rourke Chartier had a goal in regulation, along with the shootout winner, while Mark Kastelic and Andrew Agozzino also scored in the win. Mads Sogaard stopped 45 of 48 shots on a busy night at Canada Life Center. Meanwhile, Nick Hutchison, Cole Maier and Nelson Nogier all scored for Manitoba, with Mikhail Berdin making 24 saves on 27 shots against. With the win and a handful of divisional rivals losing last night, the Senators have jumped up to second place in the American Hockey League’s North Division standings.

Previous History:

Belleville’s Friday night win was their first against Manitoba this season, after the Moose swept both games back at CAA Arena in December. The Senators lifetime record against the Moose improved to 12-10-3-0 with the win, and 6-3-2-0 in Winnipeg. Tonight’s game finishes off the four game season series between the two teams.

Roster Notes:

There will be a couple of changes on the backend for Belleville tonight. Lassi Thomson, who had a pair of assists on Friday, will be out due to an upper body injury. Xavier Bernard, who was called up from the Atlanta Gladiators (ECHL) earlier this week, will take his place. Dillon Heatherington is also back in the lineup, after being reassigned by Ottawa (NHL), with Jack Dougherty out as a healthy scratch to make room. Belleville’s other scratches include Cedric Pare, Colby Williams, Tyrell Goulbourne, Kevin Mandolese and Jonathan Aspirot.

Who to Watch:

Senators forward Andrew Agozzino is on a team-high four-game point streak (two goals, two assists) coming into Saturday night’s contest and had a goal with three shots on net on Friday. Mark Kastelic also brings a three-game point streak (three goals, one assist) into the game, after scoring on Friday. Zac Leslie snapped a four game pointless streak on Friday, notching his 100th career American Hockey League Assist.

The Moose have just two players on significant point streaks as of Saturday. Cole Maier had seven shots on goal and scored Friday night, stretching his streak to four games (two goals, three assists). Defenceman Jonathan Kovacevic is on a three-game point streak (one goal, three assists) and had a helper last night.
