The Set-Up:

The Belleville Senators haven’t had much rest since winning three-of-four games over the Family Day Long weekend they’re right back to action tonight, beginning a two-game set in Laval. The Senators picked up a pair of wins over Toronto last Friday (4-3 W) and Saturday (5-4 OTW), before splitting two games with the Syracuse Crunch on Monday (6-2 L) and Tuesday (4-1 W) and are looking to continue to solidify a playoff spot in the tight AHL North Division. The Rocket, meanwhile, are coming off a split with the Marlies, which included a 6-2 loss on Monday and a 6-4 win on Wednesday. Laval has alternated wins and losses since a three-game winning streak from February 9 to 12, with all three victories coming over Syracuse.

Previous History:

Tonight’s matchup is the 8th of 12 in the season series, with Belleville holding a 5-3-0-0 record so far. The Senators are 3-0-0-0 this season at CAA Arena and 2-2-0-0 at Place Bell. Belleville earned a 6-1 victory at home in their last meeting, on February 5, 2022, when Rourke Chartier had four points (two goals, two assists), Egor Sokolov had three points (one goal, two assists) and Mads Sogaard stopped 22 of 23 shots against. Lifetime against the Rocket, the Senators are 26-22-1-2, with a 10-14-1-0 mark at Place Bell.

Roster Notes:

Belleville is missing a couple of key pieces, with Mads Sogaard out day-to-day (upper body) and Egor Sokolov out for a week or two (shoulder). Mitchell Hoelscher is still out with a knee injury, but is close to getting back on the ice with his teammates, while Jack Dougherty and Tyrell Goulbourne are both skating in Belleville, as they continue to get back up to speed following lengthy absences. Filip Gustavsson will start in goal tonight for the Senators, backed up by Kevin Mandolese.

Who to Watch:

Andrew Agozzino is one of Belleville’s hottest players of late, riding a three-game point streak into tonight’s game (two goals, five assists). The veteran forward also has 11 points (four goals, seven assists) over his last seven games played. Other Senators to watch include former Rocket forward Jake Lucchini, who is on a three-game point streak (three goals, two assists and had a hat trick on Tuesday. Fans should also keep an eye on forward Rourke Chartier, who is on a bit of a cold streak, but is sitting on 99 career American Hockey League points.

Laval doesn’t have many streaking players, though forward Rafael Harvey-Pinard does have points in back-to-back games (three goals, two assists), with two goals, one assist and four shots on goal in Laval’s last game. Rocket newcomer Sami Niku, who was picked up off waivers from Winnipeg earlier this season, Has five points (one goal, four assists) since joining Laval.
