Game Day Build-Up: Senators vs Americans – October 27, 2021

October 27, 2021

Presented by Carpenters Union Local 397

The Set-Up:

The first three-game week of the Belleville Senators 2021-22 campaign begins tonight as the Rochester Americans make their first visit of the season to CAA Arena. The Sens are coming off a bit of a tough weekend which saw them drop two games at home to the Cleveland Monsters, though Saturday’s 2-1 loss was a much tighter affair compared with their 4-0 defeat last Friday. The Amerks, meanwhile, lost their first game of the season in Utica, before knocking off the Syracuse Crunch 5-3 in their home opener. Rochester’s last game ended in a 7-3 win at Toronto.

Previous History:

The Belleville Sens hold a 9-7-2-0 lifetime record against the Amerks, but have struggled against them at home, putting up a mark of 3-4-2-0. Belleville is 6-3-0-0 when playing at the Blue Cross Arena in Rochester. The Senators and Americans haven’t seen each other since March 7, 2020, when Rochester picked up a 4-2 win at CAA Arena.

Roster Notes:

Due to a handful of injuries, the Senators will go with 11 forwards and seven defence again on Wednesday. Mads Sogaard, Tyrell Goulbourne, Rourke Chartier and Lassi Thomson highlight the injured list. Forwards Kameron Kielly and Cedric Pare are healthy scratches. Parker Kelly returns after another recall to Ottawa, while on the blue line, Colby Williams draws back into the lineup after missing last Saturday’s game, as does Maxence Guenette. Kevin Mandolese will make his second straight start in goal.

Who to Watch:

Belleville’s leading scorer from last season Egor Sokolov has been a bit slow out of the gate, still looking for his first point of the season, after four games. But, Head Coach Troy Mann put out a reminder earlier this week that it took Sokolov about five games to get going last season as well and he’s hoping the Russian star can break out this weekend.

On the visiting side, rookie forwards Jack Quinn and JJ Peterka are leading the way offensively, with six points (four goals, two assists) and five points (one goal, four assists) respectively.

Where to Watch:

Tonight’s game starts at 7:00 p.m. ET and is can be heard on the Belleville Sens official broadcast partner 800 AM CJBQ, with Jack Miller and David Foot. The game can also be heard by fans in the Ottawa area on TSN 1200, or viewed anywhere in the world live on AHL TV.
