Game Day Build-Up: Senators vs Crunch – February 2, 2022

February 2, 2022

Presented by Carpenters Union Local 397

The Set-Up:

It’s Groundhog Day and the Belleville Senators will certainly feel like they’re living the same day repeatedly this month, as they play their first of four against the Syracuse Crunch. The Senators have only played once in the last two weeks, a 5-1 loss to the Toronto Marlies, but that quiet trend will not continue. Belleville plays a total of 13 games in February, including a six-game road trip to Pennsylvania, and a weekend in Laval. The Crunch, meanwhile, are coming off a pair of losses last weekend (2-1 @ Rochester, 6-1 vs Charlotte) and will look to get back to the form they saw in mid-January, when they put together a run of seven wins and an overtime loss over a 10-game stretch.

Previous History:

Tonight’s meeting is the third of eight between the Sens and Crunch, with each time picking up a win in the season series. Belleville had a 3-2 victory in Syracuse on November 24, but then suffered a heartbreaking last-second 2-1 defeat, on the road as well. This will be the 21st lifetime meeting between the two teams with Belleville holding an 8-10-1-1 record overall and 6-3-0-0 mark at CAA Arena.

Roster Notes:

Belleville will get some reinforcements in the lineup tonight after Mark Kastelic, Lassi Thomson, Egor Sokolov and Cole Reinhardt were all returned from Ottawa overnight and are expected to dress. Defender Dillon Heatherington was also returned from Ottawa this week and will play his first game for Belleville since December 1, 2021. Scratches for Belleville tonight include defenders Jack Dougherty, Zac Leslie, Colby Williams and Cody Goloubef, along with forwards Mitch Hoelscher and Tyrell Goulbourne.

Who to Watch:

Senators forwards Jake Lucchini and Cedric Pare have each registered a goal and an assist against the Crunch this season, with Andrew Agozzino, Chris Wilkie, Michael Del Zotto, Max Guenette, Zac Leslie and Egor Sokolov all chipping with assists. Forward Matt Wedman scored last game and has two goals in his last three matchups.

For Syracuse, Gabriel Dumont leads his team in scoring and has three points (one goal, two assists) in two games played against Belleville this season. Former AHL Rookie of the Year Alex Barre-Boulet also has a pair of points against Belleville (one goal, one assist) in just one game played against the Sens. Former Belleville Bulls forward Remi Elie has points in back to back games coming into tonight’s contest.

Tonight’s game starts at 7:00 p.m. ET and can be heard on the Belleville Sens Official Broadcast Partner 800 AM CJBQ, with Jack Miller and David Foot (Broadcast time is 6:50 p.m.). The game can also be streamed live on AHL TV.
