Game Day Build-Up: Senators vs Crunch – February 4, 2022

February 4, 2022

Presented by Carpenters Union Local 397

The Set-Up:

Following a physical and tightly contested game on Wednesday, the Belleville Sens and Syracuse Crunch will renew hostilities tonight at CAA Arena. Belleville got a late power play goal from Michael Del Zotto and a three-point night from Captain Logan Shaw in Wednesday’s 4-3 win, which also saw Matt Wedman and Dillon Heatherington find the net. PC Labrie, Charles Hudon and Gage Goncalves scored for the Crunch.

Previous History:

With the Wednesday win, the Senators have taken a 2-1 lead in the eight-game season series with the Crunch. Belleville is 1-0-0-0 against Syracuse at home this season and 1-1-0-0 against the Crunch on the road. Belleville’s lifetime record against Syracuse improved to 9-10-1-1 overall and 7-3-0-0 at CAA Arena.

Roster Notes:

The Senators have just two changes to the lineup from Wednesday’s win. Defenceman Jacob Bernard-Docker will miss the game after taking a stick to the face Wednesday and suffering a cut to his jaw, while also having a tooth knocked out and several others knocked loose. He’ll be replaced by Colby Williams, who was a healthy scratch earlier in th week. Up front, Mitch Hoelscher draws back in, in favour of Chris Wilkie. Filip Gustavsson will back up Mads Sogaard, after leaving Wednesday’s matchup with an upper body injury. Belleville’s other scratches include Jack Dougherty (shoulder), Zac Leslie (healthy), Tyrell Goulbourne (personal) and Cody Goloubef (healthy).

Who to Watch:

Senators Captain Logan Shaw had three points in Wednesday’s win (one goal, two assists), while defender Dillon Heatherington also found the net in his first game back in Belleville following a two-month call up to Ottawa.

While he’s not known for his offence, veteran Crunch forward PC Labrie had a goal and an assist on Wednesday and will aim to continue to provide some depth and grit for Syracuse. The Crunch roster also includes former AHL Rookie of the Year Alex Barre-Boulet and former Ontario Hockey League standout Sean Day.
