Game Day Build-Up: Senators vs Rocket – November 27, 2021

November 27, 2021

Presented by Carpenters Union Local 397

The Set-Up:

For the second time this season the Belleville Senators will welcome the Laval Rocket to CAA Arena, just one night after the divisional rivals met at Place Bell. The difference this time, is that Belleville is coming off of a victory rather than a loss and will be looking to start to create some distance in the North Division standings. The Senators beat the Rocket 6-2 on Friday, with Jake Lucchini (8th), Cedric Pare (2nd), Egor Sokolov (3rd) ,Cole Reinhardt (2nd), Matt Wedman (4th), and Chris Wilkie (3rd) all scored for Belleville, while Mads Sogaard made 32 saves on 34 shots, earning his 6th win of the season. It’s Hockey Fights Cancer Night at CAA Arena, so fans are encouraged to wear lavender and to arrive early for our pregame ceremony. Fans can also fill out their own “I Fight For” cards and take part in a moment of recognition for those battling cancer and those we’ve lost, during the first period.

Previous History:

Tonight’s matchup already marks the halfway point in the 12 game season series between the Sens and Rocket. Belleville took a 3-2 lead with the win last night and picked up its first victory of the season at Place Bell. The Senators will try to defend home ice at CAA Arena, where they haven’t lost to Laval yet this season and hold a 14-8-0-2 lifetime record. Belleville’s overall record vs Laval since 2017-18 is up to 24-22-1-2 after Friday’s win.

Roster Notes:

The Senators will make two substitutions tonight, one up front and one on the back end. Andrew Agozzino returns after getting a couple games off to be with his family during the birth of his son Hudson, while Jack Dougherty makes his season debut for the Sens on the blueline, after being acquired from Providence mid-week. Dougherty, from St. Paul, Minnesota, will be playing in his third season for Belleville and will add more defensive depth and experience to the roster. Phil Daoust and Xavier Bernard will sit out tonight, to allow Agozzino and Dougherty to get back in, while Blake Siebenaler, Kole Sherwood and Tyrell Goulbourne are all healthy scratches. Rourke Chartier, Mitchell Hoelscher and Jonathan Aspirot are out injured.

Who to Watch:

Belleville’s Matt Wedman seems to enjoy playing against the Rocket, as he added his fourth tally of the season last night. All the Edmonton, Alberta native’s goals this season have come against the Rocket. Egor Sokolov is now on a three-game point streak, after scoring on Friday and Cedric Pare has scored in back-to-back games, after notching his first career AHL marker on Wednesday in Syracuse. Sens defenceman Dillon Heatherington had four assists last night.

On the Rocket side, Corey Schueneman continues to be consistent of late, notching points in three straight games. Lukas Vejdomo also has a three game point streak, while Tobie Paquette-Bisson scored his first goal of the season and snapped a three-game pointless drought, last night.
