Game Day Build-Up: Senators vs Rocket – October 8 2021

October 8, 2021

Presented by Carpenters Union Local 397

The Set-Up:

The Belleville Senators are back at home for the first time since March 2020 as they open the 2021-22 American Hockey League preseason with a pair of games this weekend. First up tonight is a match-up with the Laval Rocket, at 7:00 p.m. at CAA Arena. Both Belleville and Laval will get their first taste of game action tonight, before each taking on the Toronto Marlies over the course of the weekend as well.

Previous History:

In regular season play, the Belleville Sens have a 21-20-1-2 lifetime record against their rivals from “La Belle Province”, but Belleville was just 3-8-0-0 against Laval during the pandemic-affected campaign. The Rocket were the best team in the AHL’s Canadian Division and the second-best in the entire league last season, posting a 23-9-3-1 record. Belleville was third in the Canadian Division and 16th in the AHL, at 18-16-1-0.

Roster Notes:

It’s a much different-looking Belleville Sens team, compared to the one that finished the shortened 2020-21 campaign, with more than 30 players still in Training Camp and a handful still with the NHL club in Ottawa. Head Coach Troy Mann says this weekend’s games will be a good chance for some potential depth players to get noticed by his staff.

Who to Watch:

Winger Egor Sokolov has turned some heads since debuting with the Belleville Sens and leading the team in scoring last season. He’ll make his first appearance at CAA Arena and will try to improve on the 15 goals and 10 assists he registered last season.

Senators’ second round draft pick in 2020, Roby Jarventie, will also play his first game in Belleville tonight.  He joined the Belleville Sens late last season and played in four games, scoring two goals and adding an assist. He registered 14 goals and 11 assists in 48 games playing in Finland, before coming to North America.

Where to Watch:

Tonight’s game starts at 7pm ET and is only available to be heard on the Belleville Sens official broadcast partner 800 AM CJBQ, with Jack Miller and David Foot. Regular season games will be available on AHL TV.

Don’t forget to download the Belleville Senators app before game time, and follow the Sens social media for updates.
