Game Day Build-Up: Senators at Wolf Pack – March 2 2022

March 2, 2022

Presented by Carpenters Union Local 397

The Set-Up:

Coming off a split of four games against divisional rivals Syracuse and Laval last week, the Belleville Senators begin another busy stretch with a makeup game in Hartford, Connecticut, tonight, before hosting Rochester for a pair of games this weekend. The game was originally supposed to be played back in December but was postponed due to COVID-19 concerns. The Senators split two games at home with the Syracuse Crunch last Monday and Tuesday, before a lopsided loss and a thrilling comeback victory over the Laval Rocket on Friday and Saturday. Belleville scored four unanswered goals in the third period of that second game in Laval. The Wolf Pack are coming off a 6-3 loss in Providence last Sunday.

Previous History:

Tonight’s meeting is just the seventh with the Wolf Pack in Belleville Sens franchise history, with Belleville seeing plenty of success against the New York Rangers AHL affiliate. Belleville is 5-1-0-0 against the Wolf Pack all-time, with a perfect 3-0-0-0 mark at XL Center in Hartford. This is the first of four meetings between the two teams this season, with Hartford visiting Belleville on March 19 and April 13, and the Senators returning back to the Connecticut capital on April Fools’ Day.

Roster Notes:

The Senators will still be without forward Egor Sokolov (shoulder), forward Mitch Hoelscher (knee) and goaltender Mads Sogaard (upper body) tonight. Sokolov is back in Belleville and skating, with the hope that he’s ready to go on Friday against Rochester. Head Coach Troy Mann says Hoelscher is getting close to returning and could probably play in an emergency situation, but Mads Sogaard will need at least another week before he’s ready, and will hopefully return when the Senators visit Winnipeg next weekend. Other scratches for Belleville include defenceman Jack Dougherty and forwards Tyrell Goulbourne and Hugo Roy. Filip Gustavsson will start in goal, backed up by Kevin Mandolese.

Who to Watch:

Belleville forward Roby Jarventie snapped a three-game pointless streak with two goals in Laval last Saturday afternoon, including the game-winning goal in the final minute. Defenceman Zac Leslie has five points (one goal, four assists) in his last four games played, while Cole Reinhardt also had a goal last weekend.

For the Wolf Pack, Anthony Greco is on a three-game point streak and is tied for third in shots in the American Hockey League with 157. Ty Ronning is also on a three game point streak (two goals, three assists), while Nils Lundkvist and Matt Lorito each have one goal and two assists in their last two games.

Follow the action:

Today’s game starts at 7:00 p.m. ET and can be heard on the Belleville Sens Official Broadcast Partner 800 AM CJBQ, with David Foot (Broadcast time is 6:50 p.m.). The game can also be streamed live on AHL TV.
