Game Day Build-Up: Senators wrap homestand by welcoming rivals from Rochester

March 4, 2023

Presented by Carpenters Union Local 397
Mar.4/23 vs Rochester Americans (NHL Affiliate: Buffalo Sabres)

The Set-Up:

A night after a gritty 4-1 win over the Rockford IceHogs, the Belleville Senators will conclude their three-game homestand with a pivotal divisional matchup against the Rochester Americans. The Senators used four different goal scorers and a stifling defence against Rockford on Friday and will need to stick to that plan tonight, as they take on an Amerks team that lost 4-3 in overtime in Laval Friday before braving the snowstorm to travel to the Friendly City. Rochester currently holds the 4th spot in the AHL North Division, six points ahead of Belleville, but a Sens win will help them inch closer to the right side of the playoff cut line.

Previous History:

This is the penultimate game in the eight-game season series between the Sens and Amerks, with Belleville holding a 3-1-2-0 record in 2022-23. The Amerks won their last meeting, exactly a month ago, with a 4-3 victory at CAA Arena. Lifetime against Rochester, Belleville is 17-10-5-0 and 7-5-4-0 on home ice.

Roster Notes:

The Senators will be without Ridly Greig tonight after the rookie forward suffered an injury last night and is listed as day-to-day. The American Hockey League is also reviewing a hit by Sens forward Matt Wedman from last night’s game and could hand down supplemental discipline after Wedman was assessed a five-minute major and a game misconduct. With that decision pending, full lineup details will be available prior to the puck drop. Dylan Ferguson is expected to start in net and be backed up by Kevin Mandolese.

Who to Watch:

Forward Cole Reinhardt has the longest active point streak for Belleville at four games (two goals, three assists). The 23-year-old from Irricana, Alberta, quietly added two assists last night and continues to be key in the Senators penalty killing efforts. Meanwhile, Angus Crookshank and John Quenneville each snapped four-game point droughts last night. Crookshank netted his team-leading 20th goal of the season and had a season-high eight shots on goal, while Quenneville notched a goal plus five shots on net.

Rochester has been led offensively of late by Mason Jobst, who has scored in three straight games and also added an assist to that streak. Defenders Brandon Davies (one goal, three assists) and Ethan Prow (one goal, one assist), each have points in back-to-back games, with Davies putting up seven points (three goals, four assists) over his last five games.
