Game Day Build-Up: Sens look to rebound from Friday loss in final meeting with the Moose

January 14, 2023

Presented by Carpenters Union Local 397
Jan.13/23 vs Cleveland Monsters (NHL Affiliate: Columbus Blue Jackets)

The Set-Up:

After having their four-game point streak snapped last night, the Belleville Senators will look to bounce back tonight as their six-game homestand continues. The Manitoba Moose are back at CAA Arena for the second time in a week, on Bell Let’s Talk Night. Scott Sabourin was the only Senator to score on Friday, with Mads Søgaard making 27 and a pair of Josh Dunne goals for Cleveland making the difference. The Moose return to Belleville on the heels of a strange situation in Toronto last night, where they had their game with the Marlies postponed after one period, following a medical emergency in the crowd. Aside from last night, the Moose have lost back-to-back games and have just one win over their last six games played.

Previous History:

Tonight’s game wraps up the season series between Manitoba and Belleville, with the Sens looking to even the season series, after beating the Moose 6-1 last weekend. The home team has won all three games in the series so far, leading to a 1-2-0-0 record for Belleville. Lifetime against the Moose, the Sens are 11-10-4-0, with a 7-5-1-0 mark at CAA Arena.

Roster Notes:

Head Coach Troy Mann will go with 11 forwards and seven defencemen tonight, with the plan to rotate the centre position throughout the game. Jack Dougherty will draw-in on the back end, while forward Joe Carroll will get the night off. Forward Chad Yetman and goaltender Antoine Bibeau are healthy scratches tonight, with Mads Sogaard getting the start for the second night in a row. He’ll be backed up by Kevin Mandolese.

Who to Watch:

The Senators “identity line” of Scott Sabourin, Cole Reinhardt and Cole Cassels has been their most consistent offensively over the past few games, with all three players carrying point streaks into tonight. Sabourin is on a four-game streak (four goals, one assist) and has scored in three straight games. Reinhardt is also on a four-game streak (five assists), while Cassels has a 3-game point streak on the go (three assists).

Defender Declan Chisholm will be Manitoba’s representative at the 2023 AHL All-Star Classic presented by Bell, being held in Laval early next month. The 23-year-old from Bowmanville, Ontario is playing in his third professional season, following four years with the Ontario Hockey League’s Peterborough Petes, and has three goals and 20 assists over 32 games this season. He sits 7th in AHL scoring by defencemen.
