Game Day Build-Up: B-Sens look to tame Wolf Pack in matinee homestand finale

March 24, 2024

Belleville Sens Game Day Build-Up
Mar.24/24 vs Hartford Wolf Pack (NHL Affiliate: New York Rangers)

The Set-Up:

It’s safe to say the Belleville Senators home-ice three-in-three hasn’t gone as planned to this point. The Senators have suffered back-to-back 3-2 defeats to the rival Laval Rocket at CAA Arena this weekend, in overtime Friday and in regulation Saturday, seeing Belleville slip into sixth place in the North Division and out of the playoff places for the first time in a while. Belleville is tied with the Rocket on points and trailing Toronto and Rochester, in third and fourth, by just three points. With that in mind, the B-Sens can get back into the playoff picture and end the weekend on a high note, if they can knock off the slumping Hartford Wolf Pack this afternoon and get some help around the league. Hartford has lost seven games in a row, including a 5-1 defeat in Toronto yesterday.

Previous History:

Todays’ matchup concludes the two-game season series between Belleville and Hartford that began with a 4-3 overtime defeat to the Wolf Pack at the XL Center back in late November. Angus Crookshank, Max Guenette and Orrin Centazzo scored for the Sens in that game, while Boko Imama had a spirited scrap with lumbering prospect Matt Rempe, who has since been called up to the New York Rangers and is making a name for himself in the National Hockey League. Lifetime against Hartford, Belleville is 8-2-1-0, with a 3-2-0-0 record at CAA Arena.

Roster Notes:

No transactions have been reported for the Senators this morning, though there could be some lineup changes due to the quick turnaround, coming off of Saturday night’s defeat. Full lineup details, including tonight’s alignment, will be available prior to puck drop via the B-Sens social media channels (@BellevilleSens).

Who to Watch:

Belleville Sens defenceman Max Guenette was named the second star on Saturday night, picking up a goal and an assist for Belleville. It was the sixth multi-point game of the season for Guenette and the fourth time he’s found the net and registered a helper. Newly-acquired forward Jamieson Rees will be the most familiar Sens player when it comes to Hartford, playing them nine times this season between his time with Springfield and Charlotte, and registering two assists.

Two Wolf Pack players have picked up points in back-to-back games and coincidentally, both spent time with the Sens’ Ontario rivals in Toronto. Mac Hollowell has three assists over his last two games, while Nick Petan has a goal and a helper, including scoring the only goal for Hartford against his former club in Toronto yesterday.

At the rink:

This afternoon is the final Sunday Fun Day of the season.
