game day Share this Game Day Build-Up: Belleville Sens hope persistence pays off in season series finale with Grand Rapids January 27, 2024 Belleville Sens Game Day Build-Up Jan.27/24 vs Grand Rapids Griffins (NHL Affiliate: Detroit Red Wings) The Set-Up: The Belleville Senators will be looking for their persistence to pay off tonight when they match up with the Grand Rapids Griffins to finish their back-to-back set at Van Andel Arena. The Senators have outshot four of their last five opponents, but have collected just one point over that stretch, as they attempt to find the form that saw them win seven straight games out of the Holiday Break. As the North Division standings tighten, the Sens will try to split the weekend in Michigan, get some payback after their 3-0 loss to the Griffins on Friday night and continue to fight for playoff seeding in an ever-tightening AHL North Division, before the final leg of this five-game road trip takes them to Syracuse next week. Previous History: Tonight’s game is the finale of the four-game series between Belleville and Grand Rapids, with the Senators holding an even 1-1-1-0 record. Belleville picked up a win and earned a point in a shootout loss with the Griffins back in December at CAA Arena. After Friday’s loss, the Senators all-time record against the Griffins drops to 4-3-1-0 and 2-2-0-0 at Van Andel Arnea. Roster Notes: The Belleville roster continues to hold steady, but another name was added to the injured list, as defenceman Max Guenette did not play. He joins Phil Daoust, Cole Reinhardt, Graham McPhee and Roby Jarventie in the group of Senators not yet cleared to play. Full lineup information, including tonight’s alignment, will be available before the puck drop. Who to Watch: Egor Sokolov has been living up to his “Shark” moniker of late, peppering opposing goaltenders with 19 shots over the last four games. Rookie forward Tyler Boucher has also been making himself noticed, by scoring a late game-tying goal on Wednesday in Milwaukee and showing a physical edge to his game. Griffins forwards Austin Czarnik and Jonatan Berggren extended their respective point streaks to five games last night. Bergren scored twice and added an assist, while Czarnik registered a helper and three shots on goal. Rookie winger Carter Mazur also had a goal and an assist last night.
