Game Day Build-Up: Belleville Sens return home to wrap season series with Manitoba

January 10, 2024

Belleville Sens Game Day Build-Up
Jan.10/24 @ Manitoba Moose (NHL Affiliate: Winnipeg Jets)

The Set-Up:

Back home with another four points in their pocket, the Belleville Senators (16-11-2-2) will welcome the Manitoba Moose (12-17-0-0) to CAA Arena tonight, to end their set of three straight games. The Sens’ successful weekend on the road in Winnipeg came on the backs of two solid defensive efforts, some consistently strong goaltending and enough offence to grind a couple of victories, including a 2-1 win on Sunday, and extend the team’s league-leading unbeaten run to six games. And while Belleville is trending up and sitting third in the North Division, the Moose can’t say the same. They’ve now lost four games in a row and are still at the bottom of the Central, as they begin a three-game road trip tonight.

Previous History:

Tonight’s matchup concludes the four-game season series between Belleville and Manitoba, with the Sens holding a 2-1-0-0 advantage, following their pair of victories in “The Peg” on the weekend. The road team has won every game of the season series so far, with Manitoba winning 3-2 in Belleville in the season series opener back in November. Lifetime against the Moose, the Senators are 15-14-4-0, and 7-9-1-0 at CAA Arena.

Roster Notes:

Two significant additions are returning from NHL stints in Ottawa tonight, with forwards Jiri Smejkal and Angus Crookshank slotting back into the lineup. In corresponding moves, the Sens released forward Jarid Lukosevicius from his professional tryout and assigned forward Tarun Fizer to their ECHL affiliate, the Allen Americans. Full lineup details including tonight’s alignment will be released before puck drop.

Who to Watch:

Senators forward Brennan Saulnier returned from an extended injury absence on Sunday in Winnipeg and made his presence felt, scoring a goal. The 30-year-old from Halifax, Nova Scotia will play in his 100th American Hockey League game tonight. In terms of offence, Roby Jarventie had an assist on Sunday and has picked up a point in 14 of his last 17 games. He leads the Senators in points per game percentage at .95.

Rookie sniper Nikita Chibrikov has enjoyed the season series against Belleville, scoring twice in three games. He sits 7th in AHL scoring, along with teammate Brad Lambert, who has two assists against the Sens this season. Chaz Lucius also has a pair of helpers against Belleville, but didn’t play in either game this past weekend.

At the Rink:

It’s Winning Wednesday at CAA Arena, with a pair of tickets to see City and Colour at the Canadian Tire Centre up for grabs. Fans can also take advantage of Happy Hours specials at the rink, including $5 tall boys and $2 hot dogs, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
