Game Day Build-Up: Belleville Sens visit laval to close out 2023-24 preseason

October 8, 2023

Belleville Sens Game Day Build-Up
Oct.8/23 @ Laval Rocket (NHL Affiliate: Montreal Canadiens)

The Set-Up:

With the new American Hockey League season fast approaching, the Belleville Senators have one more chance to work out some kinks, as they finish their two-game exhibition schedule in Laval this afternoon. The Sens will be looking to build off a solid effort that ended in a 2-1 loss in Toronto on Friday. It’s the last chance for players looking to earn a roster spot to get themselves noticed, before the club opens up its seventh AHL regular season next weekend, in Hershey. Laval’s only other preseason game with a 3-1 win over the Marlies, in Toronto, last Thursday.

Previous History:

Belleville had a significant advantage over Laval in their 2022-23 season series, skating to a 9-3-0-0 record. The Sens are 28-37-1-2 against the Rocket in their lifetime.

Roster Notes:

Even though eight players were returned from Ottawa on Saturday night, none of them will be in the lineup tonight. The Sens will skate with 11 forwards and six defence, with Kevin Mandolese starting in goal. He’ll be backed up by Mark Sinclair. Meanwhile, forward Matthew Boucher, who suited up for 50 games with Belleville last season (six goals, 10 assists), will join the club on a professional tryout for this afternoon’s contest. Full lineup details will be released prior to puck drop.

Who to Watch:

Angus Crookshank was the only Senator to score on Friday in Toronto, finding the top shelf on a shorthanded break. He’ll start today on the top line, alongside Matthew Highmore and Josh Currie. Kevin Mandolese seems to always play well in Laval, not far from his hometown of Montreal, so it’s hoped he’ll be able to provide a solid backstop for a depleted lineup today.

Follow the action:

Today’s game is closed to fans and can only be heard exclusively on the Belleville Sens Entertainment Network. Coverage from Place Bell in Laval, Quebec, begins at 12:55 p.m. (ET) with David Foot.
