Game Day Build-Up: Senators and Moose set to square off in all-Canadian matchup at CAA Arena

November 17, 2023

Belleville Sens Game Day Build-Up
Nov.17/23 vs Manitoba Moose (NHL Affiliate: Winnipeg Jets)

The Set-Up:

After seeing a four-goal lead slip away, in a road loss to Laval earlier this week, the Belleville Senators are looking to reset and refocus tonight, as they begin back-to-back games at home to finish off the week. The Sens welcome the Manitoba Moose (Winnipeg Jets) to CAA Arena tonight, for the first matchup of the season between the Canadian rivals. Despite Wednesday’s loss, Belleville has been playing some solid and consistent hockey of late, buoyed by some strong goaltending, offensive input from the back end and a tenacious forecheck up front. All of those pieces will be important for the Sens tonight against a Manitoba team that’s been sputtering after winning three-of-four games to start the season, as the Moose hit the road tonight, after losing all four games on their recent homestand.

Previous History:

This is the 27th overall meeting and first of four this season between the Senators and Moose, with Belleville looking to improve on last season’s 1-2-1-0 record. Lifetime against Manitoba, Belleville sits at an almost even 13-13-4-0 record, with a 7-8-1-0 mark at home. The lifetime series includes 10 meetings during the 2020-21 “bubble season” when the Sens went 5-4-1-0 against the Moose.

Roster Notes:

There are no anticipated changes to the Senators’ roster, with the NHL club still in Sweden with one more game to play in the NHL Global Series. Defenceman Jacob Larsson, goaltender Mads Sogaard and forward Matthew Highmore are all among the group of Belleville players up with the big club, while there’s been no change to the injured list either. Tarun Fizer, Tyler Boucher, Philippe Daoust, Brennan Saulnier and Donovan Sebrango are all still out, with line pairings and full lineup info to be released ahead of puck drop.

Who to Watch:

Power Forward Boko Imama scored his first goal as a Senator on Wednesday night, playing just outside of his hometown of Montreal. With a handful of Belleville’s veteran players either recalled to Ottawa or hurt, the 27-year-old is looking to make his mark and seize the opportunity, dressing in his fifth consecutive game tonight. In terms of ongoing point streaks, both Angus Crookshank (two goals, one assist) and Max Guenette (three assists) have points in back-to-back games, while Matthew Boucher recorded his first two points of the season, with a pair of assists on Wednesday.

Given their current run of losses, there aren’t any Moose players on notable point streaks. Their key players include 2022 first-round draft pick (30th overall) Brad Lambert, who had 10 points (five goals, five assists) over a seven-game point streak to start the season. The Moose roster also boasts another first-round pick in Chaz Lucius (Winnipeg’s 18th overall in 2021), along with a handful of other high-round draft picks.
