Game Day Build-Up: Senators conclude season series with Cleveland

December 15, 2023

Belleville Sens Game Day Build-Up
Dec.15/23 @ Cleveland (NHL Affiliate: Columbus Blue Jackets)

The Set-Up:

Like their last pair of games with the Cleveland Monsters, the Belleville Senators will look to earn a split over the division leaders tonight, following Thursday night’s loss. Garrett Pilon had Belleville’s only goal and Mads Sogaard made 30 saves, as the Monsters picked up a 5-1 win at Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse last night. Tonight, the Sens will look to start like they did on Thursday, continue to bring pressure in the offensive zone and control the Monsters on the rush, while sticking to their gameplan for a consistent 60 minutes.

Previous History:

Tonight’s matchup is the conclusion of the four-game season series between Belleville and Cleveland, with the Monsters taking a 2-1 lead on the campaign. With Thursday’s loss, the Senators all-time record against the Monsters falls to 12-13-0-2, with a 5-8-0-0 mark on the road in Cleveland.

Roster Notes:

It seems as if both the Belleville Sens and the NHL Senators made it out unscathed in their respective games last night and with both playing again tonight, there are no transactions to report so far today. Forwards Philippe Daoust, Kyle Betts, and Brennan Saulnier remain on the injured list. Full lineup details, including tonight’s alignment, will be available before puck drop.

Who to Watch:

Both Garrett Pilon (seven games) and Angus Crookshank (four games) extended their point streaks last night, combining on Belleville’s only goal of the game. The pair of forwards have been finding some chemistry since Pilon joined the club this season and have become a consistent offensive threat for the Senators this season. Defenceman Max Guenette still sits 8th an AHL defensive scoring with 17 points.

Cleveland snapped out of its offensive slump in a big way last night, thanks to Hunter McCown (four assists) and and James Malatesta (two goals). Trey Fix-Wolansky had an assist and still sits 12th in AHL scoring (23 points), while goaltender Jet Greaves moved into a tie for second in goaltender wins (10). Jake Christiansen is also still among the top-scoring defencemen in the league with 17 points.
