Game Day Build-Up: Senators mark Military Appreciation Night with visit from Monsters

November 10, 2023

Belleville Sens Game Day Build-Up
Nov.10/23 vs Cleveland Monsters (NHL Affiliate: Columbus Blue Jackets)

The Set-Up:

With another dramatic victory in the books, following a 3-2 shootout win over the Syracuse Crunch on Wednesday, the Belleville Senators are preparing for their next test inside the North Division as the Cleveland Monsters visit for a pair of games this weekend. The Senators have been finding their chemistry early in the season and are scoring regularly, averaging three goals a game over their past four contests, but have also been relying on some excellent goaltending to get their results so far this season. They’ll have to continue with that strong back-end play against an incoming Monsters team that has won five of its last six games, scoring 26 times over that span, and are coming off a 5-4 win at home to Providence last weekend.

Previous History:

Despite facing off eight times in 2022-23, with Belleville posting a 3-4-0-1 record, the Sens and Monsters will only see each other four times this season. They’ll play again on Sunday afternoon here in Belleville, with the final two games of the season series to be played in Cleveland in mid-December. In 24 lifetime meetings with the Monsters, the Sens are 11-11-0-2, and 6-4-0-2 at CAA Arena.

Roster Notes:

After another NHL recall, with Matthew Highmore being called up to the Ottawa Senators this week, Belleville has brought in a couple more familiar faces on professional tryouts. Both Jarid Lukosevicius and Kyle Betts have returned to the Friendly City from their ECHL clubs in South Carolina and Utah respectively, and will help bolster the forward corps. Additionally, Nikolas Matinpalo has been returned from Ottawa and will re-join the Belleville blue line. Full lineup information will be available prior to puck drop.

Who to Watch:

Belleville defenceman Max Guenette has jumped into the team scoring lead, thanks to his ongoing five-game point streak (one goal, six assists). Guenette scored his first goal of the season on Wednesday night and had an assist as well. Additionally, Angus Crookshank will try to extend his four game point streak (one goal, four assists), playing in his 100th career AHL game. It’s AHL game number 200 for defender Jacob Larsson.

Speedy forward Trey Fix-Wolansky leads the way for Cleveland, bringing a six-game point streak into tonight’s contest (two goals, seven assists). He’s only been held pointless in one game this season. Defender Nick Blankenburg is also on a six-game point streak (three goals, five assists).

At the rink:

Tonight is Military Appreciation Night as the Senators recognize the service and sacrifice of the Canadian Armed Forces. Before the game, the Sens will hold a Remembrance Day ceremony, featuring representatives from 8 Wing CFB Trenton and a few surprises. Fans can also check out various military-themed displays around CAA Arena, including an exhibit from the National Air Force Museum of Canada, in the Community Alley, just inside Gate 2.

Follow the action:

Tonight’s game can be seen on AHL TV and heard on the Belleville Sens Entertainment Network. pregame coverage from CAA Arena in Belleville, Ontario, begins at 6:45 p.m. (ET) with David Foot and Tim Durkin.
