Game Day Build-Up: Sens look for sweep in Syracuse to wrap up five-game road swing

February 3, 2024

Belleville Sens Game Day Build-Up
Feb.3/24 @ Syracuse Crunch (NHL Affiliate: Tampa Bay Lightning)

The Set-Up:

The Belleville Senators (19-17-2-3) have begun the climb back up the North Division standings and will look to gain more ground tonight, when they take on the co-division-leading Syracuse Crunch (24-14-2-2) again, at Upstate Medical University Arena. Belleville was backstopped by a sparkling performance from Mads Sogaard on Friday in a 3-1 win over the Crunch. “The Great Dane” stopped 26 of 27 shots, while Angus Crookshank, Lassi Thomson and Matt Highmore all scored for the Senators, helping them to leapfrog the Utica Comets ahead of the final game before the AHL All-Star Break. Even with the break looming, the Sens are focused on repeating their performance and swiping another two points in Syracuse, as they wrap-up this current five-game road swing.

Previous History:

After Friday’s win, Belleville has a 2-0-00 record against the Crunch this season. The victory also improves the Senators record against Syracuse to an even 15-15-2-2- over their lifetime and 4-9-2-1 over 16 visits to Upstate Medical University Arena.

This is the second of eight meetings between Belleville and Syracuse this season, the first of four meetings this month and the 34th matchup all-time. Belleville earned a shootout win at CAA Arena, when the two clubs met back in November and hold a 14-15-2-2 record against the Crunch over their lifetime. In Syracuse, the Senators are 3-9-2-1 all-time.

Roster Notes:

There were no transactions for the Senators since yesterday’s game. Forwards Phil Daoust, Cole Reinhardt, Roby Jarventie and defenceman Max Guenette all remain on the injured list. Full lineup details, including tonight’s alignment, will be available prior to puck drop.

Who to Watch:

Egor Sokolov has been Belleville’s top point-getter against the Crunch this season, picking up three assists over two games. Angus Crookshank and Matt Highmore have each tallied a goal and an assist against Syracuse this season, with both of Highmore’s points coming in last night’s win. Lassi Thomson’s goal last night made him the new franchise leader in points by a defenceman (84).

Crunch forward Felix Robert has points in back-to-back games, including an assist last night. He’s been one of the Crunch’s most consistent offensive players of late, picking up a point in seven of his last 10 games played.
