Ottawa Senators conclude Prospects Challenge with loss to Montreal

The Ottawa Senators concluded their schedule at the Prospects Challenge with a 2-1 loss to the Montreal Canadiens on Monday afternoon at the LECOM HarborCenter.

Just before the midway point of the first period, Ottawa opened the scoring through a shorthanded tally from Tarun Fizer as the Senators took a 1-0 lead after twenty minutes of play.

In the second period, the back-and-forth play continued when Riley Kidney was able to level the score with 9:10 remaining in the stanza to take a 1-1 tie into the intermission.

In the third, Montreal pulled ahead at the 9:49 mark of the frame as Jan Mysak notched the eventual game-winner after he was able to capitalize on a scramble in front of the net.

With the loss, the Ottawa Senators earned a 1-2-0 record at the event and will now return to the Nation’s capital with training camp set to open Sept. 21.

  • Leevi Meriläinen made 33 saves.
  • In three games at the Prospects Challenge, Tarun Fizer recorded five points, including four goals.
  • Philippe Daoust and Djibril Toure both collected assists in the contest.
