Ottawa Senators earn emphatic victory at Prospects Challenge

The Ottawa Senators earned an emphatic 5-2 victory over the New Jersey Devils as they began the Prospects Challenge on a high note Friday afternoon at the LECOM HarborCenter.

In spite of New Jersey holding a 1-0 lead after the opening twenty minutes of play. Ottawa took control of the second period as both Tarun Fizer and Ridly Greig capitalized twice in the frame to give the Senators a commanding 4-1 advantage heading into the intermission.

In the third, Roby Jarventie helped extend the lead, finishing with a nifty move on a partial breakaway before Graeme Clarke rounded out the scoring, finding the back of the net for the Devils.

The Ottawa Senators return to action against the Pittsburgh Penguins at 12 p.m. ET on Saturday, Sept. 16.

  • Leevi Meriläinen earned the win with a strong performance in net. 
  • Zack Ostapchuk was named team captain for the tournament.
