Gabriel Pizza Gameday Build-Up: Belleville Sens Laval to cap three-in-three

November 9, 2025

Sunday, November 9, 2025, vs Hartford Wolf Pack (AHL affiliate: New York Rangers)

The set-up:

The Belleville Senators finish up their first three-in-three stretch of the season this afternoon with a North Division rivalry matchup against the Laval Rocket at CAA Arena. The Sens’ spirits should be high heading into this afternoon’s contest, after Belleville edged the Hartford Wolf Pack 2-1 last night. Phil Daoust scored the game-winner, shorthanded, with just about four seconds left in the game, evening Belleville’s record at 5-5-1-0 through the first 11 games of the season. Jackson Parsons stopped 30 of 31 shots he faced, earning his first win in his American Hockey League debut. The Rocket sit only three points ahead of Belleville in the early-season standings and haven’t played since knocking off Hartford themselves on Friday. Laval has lost just four times this season, with one of those defeats coming at the hands of the Senators a couple of weeks back.

Previous History:

This is the second of 10 meetings this season between the Sens and Rocket, with Belleville holding a 1-0-0-0 advantage, following a 6-2 win at CAA Arena on October 22. Xavier Bourgault scored twice in that game, while Garrett Pilon, Wyatt Bongiovanni, Cam Crotty, and Hayden Hodgson also tallied. Leevi Merilainen earned the win in net that night. That victory improves Belleville’s lifetime record against Laval to 49-36-3-4 and 26-14-2-4 on home ice. The next meetings in the season series will be on November 21 and 22, when Belleville makes its first visit to Place Bell to begin a four-game Canadian road trip.

Roster Notes:

With a quick turnaround this afternoon, one could assume that Hunter Shepard will return between the pipes for Belleville, after Jackson Parson’s solid AHL debut on Saturday night. Goaltender Mads Sogaard, forward Jamieson Rees, and defender Matt Andonovski remain on Belleville’s injured list. Full lineup details will be available via the Sens social media channels (@BellevilleSens) about half an hour ahead of puck drop.

Who to Watch:

Phil Daoust played the hero for the Senators on Saturday night, scoring the game-winning goal, shorthanded, with just four seconds left. The Barrie, Ontario native has collected eight points (two goals, six assists) over his first 11 games of the season and has found some nice chemistry with Xavier Bourgault, who had a helper yesterday as well. Meanwhile, Stephen Halliday’s 11 points still have him among the early-season league leaders.

Rocket veteran Laurent Dauphin is one of eight rocket players who have points in back-to-back games, or better. Dauphin has 13 points (seven goals, six assists) over his first 111 games and is tied for third in the AHL scoring race. He scored four goals in Laval’s win over Rochester last Saturday. Jared Davidson has been the most consistent Rocket scorer on their recent stretch, finding the net in five consecutive games.

At the Rink:

It’s Quinte West Minor Hockey Association night, with a couple of hundred of the minor Hawks bringing the energy to CAA Arena this afternoon. Fans can also take part in a second intermission Chuck-A-Puck supporting the QWMHA. And, with the snow flying in, be sure to stop by the Locker Room Store before or during the game this afternoon and take advantage of  20% off sweaters.
