Game Day Build-Up: Belleville Sens host Hartford to mark midway point of the season

January 29, 2025

Belleville Senators Game Day Build-Up
Jan.29/25 vs Hartford Wolf Pack (AHL Affiliate: New York Rangers)

The Set Up:

It’s come later than most other teams in the American Hockey League, but the Belleville Senators officially hit the midway point of the 2024-25 American Hockey League season as they complete a three-game homestand at CAA Arena tonight against the Hartford Wolf Pack (AHL affiliate of the New York Rangers). The Senators are coming off a weekend split with the back-to-back defending champions from Hershey, which has seen them keep pace in the North Division standings head of a lengthy run against divisional opponents with a handful of games in hand. And, while a busy February and the All-Star Break are just days away, the focus will have to stay squarely on tonight’s opponent, as the Wolf Pack are also battling for playoff seeding in the tightly contested Atlantic Division, sitting three back of the playoff cutline.

Previous History:

The Senators have had a solid record against the Wolf Pack over their 12 lifetime meetings, holding a mark of 8-3-1-0 and 3-3-0-0 on home ice. Last season, Belleville fell 4-3 in overtime on the road at XL Center in November 2025 and then lost 3-1 at CAA Arena in March. As has typically been the case, the Sens and Wolf Pack will face each other twice this season, with their second matchup happening in Hartford in early March.

Roster Notes:

There have been no roster moves officially made this morning. However, Ottawa put forward Cole Reinhardt on waivers yesterday, meaning if he clears and is not claimed by another team before 2:00 p.m., he would be eligible to play tonight. It will be Reinhardt’s first appearance with Belleville since December 14 against Rochester if he dresses. Even though he’s only played 14 games for Belleville this season, the 24-year-old Albertan has collected 16 points (six goals, 10 assists) and sits sixth on Belleville’s points list this season.  Before the game, you can click here for a full list of up-to-date transactions, with lineup details available via the B-Sens social channels (@bellevillesens).

Who to Watch:

Senators forward Angus Crookshank has found his offensive touch of late, carrying a five-game point streak (two goals, six assists) into tonight’s contest. The fifth-year pro leads Belleville in goals, with 15, and is tied for second in American Hockey League power play goals, with eight. Rookie forward Stephen Halliday is on a three-game point streak (two goals, two assists). At the same time, defenceman and Belleville’s All-Star Jeremy Davies collected his 150th career AHL point last Saturday with an assist.

Two Hartford players are bringing three-game point streaks into tonight’s game, including Anton Blidh (two goals, one assist) and Brennan Othmann (three goals). Othmann is a former teammate of Belleville goaltender Michael Simpson, as the pair won an Ontario Hockey League Championship together with the Peterborough Petes a couple of seasons ago. Veteran forward Alex Belzile is tied for third overall in AHL scoring, with 38 points (12 goals, 26 assists) in 38 games so far this season.

The CAA Arena gates will open at 6:00 p.m., and fans are encouraged to leave extra time to get to the rink due to the weather.
