Belleville Sens conclude busy weekend with loss to Marlies

April 2, 2023

The Belleville Senators concluded their three-in-three weekend with a 6-2 loss to the Toronto Marlies on Sunday afternoon at Coca-Cola Coliseum.

Following the defeat, the Senators continue to sit just three points behind the Laval Rocket for the fifth and final Calder Cup playoff position in the North Division and well within striking distance with five games left in the regular season.

Toronto opened the scoring early into the contest as Alex Steeves capitalized at the 4:48 mark of the first period to give the Marlies a 1-0 lead after twenty minutes of play.

In the second, Belleville would get on the board through a Matthew Wedman equalizer before they gained the advantage with a shorthanded tally from Rourke Chartier. Late in the frame, Toronto drew equal as Zach O’Brien scored with just twelve seconds remaining in the stanza.

A dominant final frame from the Marlies saw Semyon Der-Arguchintsev, Logan Shaw, Zach Solow, and Pontus Holmberg all find the back of the net to help secure the victory.

The Senators return to action Wednesday evening when they host the Cleveland Monsters, with puck drop scheduled for 7:05 p.m from CAA Arena.
