The Dukes rattled off three first period goals and hung on for a 6-4 win over the Pickering Panthers at the Duke Dome. The first period barrage was driven by a pair of Marco Wolf tallies, his first two as a Duke. The Pinckney, Michigan native, who notched 55 points in just 25 games last season with Howell High School, buried his two from close range within a span of almost five minutes. Landon Marleau then rolled into Panther territory and spiked a shot upstairs on Jacob Gibbons in the Pickering crease to up the lead to 3-0, before Ethan Dean got one back on the powerplay in the waning seconds. Wellington kept the heat on the ‘Cats in the second, with the young line of affiliated players Isaih More, Cameron Shaw and Oliver Coyle coming through at the 7:13 mark. Shaw, up from the Quinte Red Devils, laid on the forechecking pressure which forced a cough-up, leading More to spank a centering pass through Gibbons for his milestone first OJHL goal. Shaw earned his first OJHL point as well on the marker. Justin Doak’s seeing eye shot, set up by More and Coyle, found its way through traffic in the final seconds to increase the lead to 5-1. Jeremiah D’Ornellas scored twice in the third and Emanuel Ganz slapped one through Riley, but the Panthers were done in by a second Marleau goal where he broke through the middle and popped his team and league-leading 12th of the season home. Wolf finished with an outstanding four-point night and Marleau, Zach Mascard and More all chipped in with multiple points and Riley made 32 saves as the Dukes outshot Pickering 38-36. Saturday, October 10, 2026 TIGERS – 3 DUKES – 2 A frustrating road defeat was put on the record for the Wellington Dukes on Saturday night. The gritty Aurora Tigers outshot and outworked the Dukes in a 3-2 edging in ‘The Jungle,’ despite two goals from rookie defencemen. Wellington was overwhelmed in shots against in the first, but Mason Raycroft stood tall in his third start of the season with 18 saves, keeping the Tigers tamed. Aurora managed to break through early in the second with a pair of goals, before a late period powerplay got Wellington back within one. Presley Kelly ripped home a rebound on the outside of a goalmouth scramble for his third of the season. Zach Mascard and Landon Marleau both assisted on Kelly’s third of the year. Wellington’s momentum was stunted by a high-sticking minor penalty that put Aurora on a powerplay of its own that was capitalized on for the eventual winning goal. Wellington amped up pressure by pelting Aurora goalie Lucas Carpino with 16 shots overall in the third and had hope with a late goal. Gavin Godick received a pass from Jayden Levesque at the blueline, made a nifty move to avoid an Aurora skater, then deposited a wrist shot into the Aurora cage with 2:11 to go to pull the Dukes within one, but that’s as close as Wellington would get. Raycroft finished with 40 saves but is still searching for his first win as the Dukes fall to 8-4-1-1 on the campaign. TRENTON GOLDEN HAWKS Friday, October 9, 2026 HAWKS – 3 JR.SABRES – 5 A light weekend followed a busy week at the OJHL Governor’s Showcase for the Trenton Golden Hawks. Home ice unfortunately wasn’t kind to the Hawks as they lost a 2-0 first period lead and eventually were downed by the Buffalo Jr. Sabres 5-3. Liam Fisher and Kale Mace both counted for Trenton in the opening frame before Buffalo rattled off five unanswered goals en route to capture the win in their first trip to Trenton in two years. Ethan Brassard added a goal and an assist and Kaiden Harmon had two helpers for the Hawks. Hayen Jeffery made 34 saves in the losing cause. Trenton was hurt by discipline, as the Jr. Sabres pumped four powerplay goals into the net. The Hawks early season struggles continue as they now sit at 4-6-1-0 with nine points on the season. PICTON PIRATES Thursday, October 8, 2026 HUSKIES – 7 PIRATES – 5 The offence was still clicking for Picton on Thursday on home ice, but much like Tuesday in Lakefield, defensive struggles were the story in a 7-5 loss to the rival Frankford Huskies. The Pirates once again managed to build a multi-goal lead thanks to goals from the red hot Joey Coates and Keenan Wiles, but Frankford’s overpowering offence proved to be too much to handle. Evan Erwin scored four times for the Huskies, with his second period natural hat trick lifting his team into the lead that they would run away with. Wiles completed his hat trick with a pair in the third and Kirk Stevenson added a single for Picton. Coates finished with four points (a goal and three assists) and Cohen Bedore made 37 saves in Picton’s first home loss of the season. Saturday, October 10, 2026 RAIDERS – 11 PIRATES – 2 A rare Saturday night home game resulted in disaster on the scoreboard for the Pirates. Picton was hammered 11-2 by the Napanee Raiders, with the visitors scoring six times in the first and never looking back. Isaih More, fresh from his first multi-point game in the OJHL with Wellington, scored Picton’s first tally, with Ben Smith adding the other marker. Alex Lavender picked up two assists and Coates and captain Gerrit Kempers added one each. Shots favoured Napanee 46-24. Picton’s record stands at 2-7-0-0 going into another battle with the Raiders this week.
