Belleville Sens sweep doubleheader in Cleveland

The Belleville Senators made the trip to Cleveland worth it, sweeping a their Friday/Saturday doubleheader with the Monsters.
Roby Jarventie and Mark Kastelic scored on Saturday, in a 3-2 win at the Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse, that secured four points for the weekend.

Jake Lucchini put home the lone shootout tally and Kevin Mandolese earned his second win of the season, with an excellent performance stopping 27 of 29 shots.  He also stopped all three attempts against in the shootout and says he was just trying to keep the mood light.

“I was just having fun out there, smiling the whole way,” Mandolese told 800 CJBQ on Saturday night. “I think, especially with the start of the season we’ve had, it could be easy to get down on ourselves. I was just having fun out there tonight, the boys played unreal”.

Other notables for Belleville on Saturday included Lassi Thomson, who made his return to the lineup and collected an assist, after missing five games with an ankle injury. Jake Lucchini (one assist) and Roby Jerventie (one goal,one assist) earned the game’s first two stars, extending their multi-game points streaks.

Former Senators forward Cole Cassels scored his first on the season for Cleveland, and Brendan Gaunce forced extra time, tallying on a 6-on-3 man advantage late in the third period. Jean-Francois Berube made 31 saves on home ice.

Troy Mann again had to make significant lineup changes after an impressive 6-2 win on Friday night, with 12 regulars unavailable. Forwards Alexis D’Aoust, Luke Nogard and Hugo Roy made their Senators’ debuts competing on PTO’s from the Atlanta Gladiators (ECHL).

Egor Sokolov, Erik Brannstrom, Scott Sabourin and Andrew Agozzino were all recalled to Ottawa as a precaution due to a positive COVID-19 test and will rejoin the team tomorrow, when the Senators return home and resume practices on Monday and Tuesday. Parker Kelly was also recalled to Ottawa lat Friday night and had an assist in their NHL game against the Lightning on Saturday afternoon.

The Senators are back in action on Wednesday as they head to Laval for another meeting with the Rocket. You can hearthat game live on 800 AM CJBQ in the Quinte Region or see the action on AHL TV, starting at 6:50 p.m. The Senators return home to CAA Arena for Military Appreciation Night on Saturday, November 13, then host the Bridgeport Islanders in a matinee on Sunday, November 14.
