Game Day Build-Up: Senators Frantic February continues with stop in Rochester

February 21, 2025

Belleville Senators Game Day Build-Up
Feb.21/25 @ Rochester Americans (AHL affiliate: Buffalo Sabres)

The Set Up:

At least once a season, the Belleville Senators put in a lap around Lake Ontario, making multiple stops on the North Division circuit over a week’s span. The 2024-25 edition of that trip got underway with a loss in Utica on Wednesday night and continues tonight with another stop in New York State, as the Senators visit the Rochester Americans at Blue Cross Arena. The Senators are still trying to track down the Syracuse Crunch for the North’s final playoff spot and have lots of runway to catch them. However, they’re up against a Rochester group that has won eight of its last 10 games, including a 4-0 home shutout of Cleveland on Wednesday and is the second-highest scoring team in the American Hockey League.

Previous History:

This is the fifth of eight meetings between Belleville and Rochester this season and the Amerks have had the Senators’ number. Belleville’s record against Rochester is 1-3-0-0, with the Senators falling 4-0 at Blue Cross Arena in Rochester in their last meeting. Lifetime against the Amerks the Sens are 25-15-5-1 and 15-7-1-0 on the road in Rochester.

Roster Notes:

The Senators will still be without forwards Xavier Bourgault and Tyler Boucher, and goaltender Mads Sogaard due to injury. Full lineup details will be available via the Belleville Sens social channels (@BellevilleSens) ahead of game time, and you can click here for a full list of up-to-date transactions.

Who to Watch:

Belleville forward Phil Daoust has been quietly contributing to the Belleville offense, collecting assists in back-to-back games, while firing eight shots on goal over that span. The 23-year-old forward from Barrie, Ontario has dressed in 32 games for the Senators this season, tripling the amount of pro games he’s played during one campaign, after a pair of injury-shortened seasons.

There are a few Americans with points in back-to-back games, including Ryan Johnson (two assists), Mason Jobst (one goal, one assist), and Josh Dunne (two assists). Rookie winger Noah Ostlund had two goals in Rochester’s Wednesday win against Cleveland, while forward Isak Rosen and defender Nikita Novikov each had two assists , and Brett Murray also tallied.
