Game Day Build-Up: Senators look for repeat performance against Laval on Pride Night presented by Magna Autosystems

February 18, 2023

Presented by Carpenters Union Local 397
Feb.18/23 vs Laval Rocket (NHL Affiliate: Montreal Canadiens)

The Set-Up:

The Belleville Senators can put an emphatic check mark beside box one of their three-game set with the Laval Rocket after a 5-3 win at CAA Arena last night, but even with that victory, their work is still cut out for them. The gap to a playoff spot is down to five points, with Laval holding onto that 5th spot, falling behind the Rochester Americans after last night’s defeat. Also tonight, the Senators will continue to celebrate the spirit of inclusivity in hockey with Pride Night, presented by Magna Autosystems, featuring a Pride drink Koozie giveaway for the first 2,000 fans and other Pride-themed activities and events throughout the night.

Previous History:

With last night’s victory, the Sens can’t be caught by the Rocket in their 12-game season series. Belleville holds a 7-2-0-0 record against Laval this season, with a 3-1-0-0 mark at CAA Arena. Lifetime against the Rocket, the Senators improve to 36-26-1-2 and 20-10-0-2 at home.

Roster Notes:

Interim Head Coach David Bell didn’t indicate any changes to his lineup tonight, which means Antoine Bibeau will make his fourth consecutive start in net, backed up by Logan Flodell. Full lineup details will be available prior to puck-drop.

Who to Watch:

Belleville’s offence has been paced recently by the usual suspects, with Cole Cassels on a four-game point streak (two goals, two assists) and Angus Crookshank scoring in three straight games (and four of his last five), including back-to-back two-goal efforts. Meanwhile, forward Cole Reinhardt and defenceman Jacob Bernard-Docker both got off of lengthy point droughts yesterday, while Antoine Bibeau earned his second straight win in net, in his third straight start.

Speedy forward and AHL All-Star Anthony Richard extended his point streak to three games (four assists) with a helper last night and is always a threat to create offence for Laval. Rookie forward William Trudeau has points in back-to-back games (one goal, two assists) after scoring and putting four shots on net last night. Pierick Dube has had a goal and assist in each of his last two games, while Peter Abbandonato had a goal and an assist, with five shots on net last night.

Tonight’s game can be seen on AHL TV or heard live on the Belleville Sens Entertainment Network. Pregame coverage starts at 6:45 p.m. (ET) with David Foot and Brock Ormond.
