Game Day Build-Up: Senators vs Bears – March, 18 2022

March 18, 2022

Presented by Carpenters Union Local 397

The Set-Up:

The Belleville Senators have already played once this week, a 3-2 overtime loss to Utica on Tuesday, but things are about to get busier as they kick off a three-in-three set tonight at CAA Arena. The Belleville Sens first opponent this weekend is the Hershey Bears (Washington Capitals), who played in Toronto against the Marlies yesterday and were shutout 3-0. After tonight, Belleville will host the Hartford Wolf Pack (New York Rangers) on Friday and then visit the Syracuse Crunch (Tampa Bay Lightning) on Sunday.

Previous History:

This is the second of two meetings between the Senators and Bears this weekend, with Hershey holding a 1-0-0-0 advantage, following a 5-4 Belleville loss in Hershey on February 12, 2022. Lifetime against the Bears, the Senators are 2-4-0-1 and have yet to beat Hershey at CAA Arena.

Roster Notes:

With three games over the next three days, Head Coach Troy Mann is sure to make some changes to the lineup throughout the weekend due to workload. Notable additions tonight, from Tuesday, include Parker Kelly (returned from Ottawa), Jonathan Aspirot (back from a four-game injury layoff) and Mads Sogaard, who will start in net after missing Tuesday’s game due to non-COVID illness. Belleville’s scratches include Xavier Bernard, Chris Wilkie, Cedric Pare, Colby Williams, Kevin Mandolese and Michael Del Zotto.

Who to Watch:

There are no Senators on active point streaks of three-games or more, but Belleville has earned at least a point in eight of its last 10 games played. Captain Logan Shaw has points in back-to-back games (one goal, one assist) and six points in his last six games (two goals, four assists), he notched a goal with three shots on net earlier this week.

For the Bears, forward Beck Malenstyn has scored the game winning goal in two of Hershey’s last three wins and has three game-winners overall this season. The Bears will be without their top three scorers as well, with Joe Snively, Mike Vecchione and Axel-Jonsson Fjalby all up in the NHL with Washington. The Bears next best point-getter is Garrett Pilon, who has 32 points (15 goals, 17 assists) in 42 games played.
