The Set-Up:

The Belleville Senators are back on home ice tonight, as they welcome the Utica Comets to CAA Arena, just two days removed from their thrilling OT victory over those same Comets, in Utica. Sens captain Logan Shaw had two goals on Wednesday, including the game-winner, while Egor Sokolov and Colby Williams also scored, and Filip Gustavsson stopped 27 of 30 shots. Along with trying to solidify their playoff spot, after moving back into 6th in the North Division, Belleville will look to play spoiler with Utica needing just a point tonight to clinch a berth in the 2022 Calder Cup Playoffs. It’s also Community Heros Night presented by Bell, with the Senators set to recognize members of the community who have made a positive influence throughout the pandemic in-game and during intermissions.

Previous History:

Tonight’s matchup is round five of six in the season series, with Belleville’s win on Wednesday their only victory so far. They hold a record of 1-2-1-0 against Utica this year, with a 0-1-1-0 mark in Belleville. The Senators lifetime record against Utica improved to 11-10-1-0 after Wednesday’s victory and sits at 6-5-1-0 at CAA Arena.

Roster Notes:

The Senators will go with 11 forwards and seven defenders again tonight. While Cole Reinhardt has been returned to Belleville, after making his NHL debut in Ottawa on Thursday night, he’ll get Friday night off due to workload. Viktor Lodin is expected to make his Belleville Sens debut on Friday, after being assigned to the NHL from Timrå in the Swedish hockey league earlier this week. With Mark Kastelic and Parker Kelly also called up to the NHL, Cedric Pare and Chris Wilkie will draw in tonight. Belleville’s scratches this evening also include Jack Dougherty, Rourke Chartier, Cole Reinhardt and Kevin Mandolese.

Who to Watch:

Senators forward Egor Sokolov is riding a five-game point streak (three goals, three assists), Roby Jarventie has collected at least a point in his last four games (one goal, three assists), reaching a career-best streak. Captain Logan Shaw also had two goals on Wednesday, including the overtime winner.

With Fabian Zetterlund and A.J. Greer called up to New Jersey, the Comest offence will be led by Chase De Leo, who has seven points (four goals, three assists) in his last five games played, as well as rookie Alexander Holtz. The 7th overall pick in 2020 has three points (two goals, one assist) in his last five games played and 23 goals in his first AHL campaign.
