Game Day Build-Up: Senators vs Comets – March 15, 2022

March 15, 2022

Presented by Carpenters Union Local 397

The Set-Up:

The Belleville Sens are back home at CAA Arena tonight, to kick off a four-game week against the Utica Comets. The busy stretch follows a two-of-three win week, which saw a Senators victory over the Providence Bruins last Wednesday and a split with the Manitoba Moose in Winnipeg over the weekend. Despite Belleville’s six-game point streak ending with their loss on Saturday, the Sens have jumped two spots in the AHL North Division standings and currently sit in third place with 22 games to play. Tonight’s matchup will be a challenge though, as the Comets bring the best record in the Eastern Conference into the Friendly City, though they are coming off a 3-2 loss to the Rochester Americans on the weekend.

Previous History:

Tuesday night’s game marks the halfway point in the six-game season series between the Senators and Comets, with Utica winning both previous matchups this season (4-1 in Belleville on November 14 and 2-0 in Utica on December 1). Belleville has a .500 record against the Comets over their five-season history with 10 wins and 10 losses. Over their lifetime in Belleville, the Senators record against Utica is 6-5-0-0 at CAA Arena and 4-5-0-0 at the Adirondack Bank Centre.

Roster Notes:

Head Coach Troy Mann has shuffled the lines from Saturday’s loss, but personal changes will be minimal. As of this morning, Mads Sogaard is slated to start goal and be backed up by Logan Flodell, who was signed to a PTO from the Reading Royals (ECHL) on the weekend. Belleville’s scratches tonight include Jack Dougherty, Cedric Pare, Colby Williams, Tyrell Goulbourne, Kevin Mandolese, Lassi Thomson and Jonathan Aspirot.

Who to Watch:

After only scoring one goal on Saturday, there are no Senators with currently active point streaks. However, Captain Logan Shaw has five points in his last five games played (one goal, four assists), with an assist on Saturday. Mark Kastelic (three goals, one assist) and Andrew Agozzino (two goals, two assists) each have four points in their last five games.

Utica also has no players on active streaks, but a couple who have been performing well of late. Alex Holtz has seven points (three goals, four assists) in his last five games played, while A.J. Greer has six points (two goals, four assists) in his last five.
