Game Day Build-Up: Sens continue playoff push in Toronto

March 22, 2025

Belleville Senators Game Day Build-Up
Mar.22/25 vs Toronto Marlies (NHL Affiliate: Toronto Maple Leafs)

The Set Up:

The Belleville Senators put their three-game win streak to the test in game two of a home-and-home with the Toronto Marlies. It’s the only road game the team will play over a span of 11 games through late March and early April, as the team seeks to gain ground on Syracuse or Cleveland in the AHL North division; the Sens are two points back of both the Crunch and Monsters with a game in hand on both squads. Today’s game is also in the middle of a rare three-in-three weekend set, with the Sens set to host Cleveland tomorrow afternoon back at CAA Arena.

Previous History:

This is the ninth of ten meetings in this season’s American Hockey League Battle of Ontario; six of which have been one-goal games. The Sens are 4-2-1-1 against the Marlies this season. Belleville now holds a 41-34-3-5 record against Toronto, with a road record of 21-15-3-2.

Three of the four games the teams have played in Toronto this season have required extra time, with Toronto taking a 4-3 shootout win on October 25th, Belleville a 4-3 shootout win on November 16th, and Toronto a 3-2 overtime win on February 15th.

Roster Notes:

Forward Wyatt Bongiovanni returned to the lineup last night for his first game in nearly a month; he tallied an assist on the team’s opening goal. You can click here for a full list of up-to-date transactions, with full lineup details ahead of game time via the Belleville Sens social channels (@BellevilleSens).

Who to Watch:

Three Senators enter the game with point streaks through the team’s three-game win streak. Defenceman Jeremy Davies has two goals and two assists in that span,  while reigning AHL Player of the Week Jan Jenik has a whopping two goals and seven assists. Finally, newcomer Tristan Robins has three assists in his last three straight.

Jacob Quillan and Topi Niemela scored for Toronto last night; it was Niemela’s first goal of the season in his 54th game. Quillan’s goal, his fourteenth of the season, was also his fourth of the season series against Belleville, tying him with Alex Steeves for the team lead against the Sens.
