Ottawa Senators fall to Penguins at Prospects Challenge

The Ottawa Senators were defeated by the Pittsburgh Penguins 8-3 on Saturday afternoon at the LECOM HarborCenter.

Ottawa opened the scoring just over a minute into the first period as Mitchell Martin was able to finish in front of the net after an excellent setup from Philippe Daoust. However, the Penguins quickly evened the score through Evan Vierling to take a tie into the intermission. 

Throughout the early portions of the middle stanza, Pittsburgh built an advantage as Brayden Yager, Dillon Hamaliuk and Sam Poulin each found the back of the net. Later in the frame, Ottawa responded when Tarun Fizer narrowed the deficit to 4-2.  

In the third, Avery Hayes would extend the Penguins lead. Shortly after, Ty Thorpe brought the Senators back to within two. Nevertheless, before the period was over, Hamaliuk, Corey Andonovski, and Jordan Frasca tallied to secure the win. 

The Ottawa Senators return to action against the Montreal Canadiens at 1:30 p.m. ET on Monday, Sept. 18.
