Scott Harrington named 7th captain in Belleville Sens franchise history

November 6, 2026

The Belleville Senators are proud to announce defenceman Scott Harrington has been named the seventh captain in team history.

The 33-year-old blueliner is in his second season in Belleville after signing a two-year American Hockey League contract in 2025-26, and he has dressed in all 12 games this season, registering a goal and an assist. Last season with the Sens, Harrington dressed in 68 games and collected 19 points (three goals, 16 assists).

A veteran of nearly 255 NHL games and more than 300 in the AHL, this will be Harrington’s first appointment as a team captain at the professional level. Most recently, Harrington served as an alternate captain for Belleville in 2025-26 and previously captained the Ontario Hockey League’s London Knights in 2012-13; he also served as an alternate captain for Canada’s National Junior Team at the 2013 IIHF World U20 Championship.

Raised in Kingston, about an hour east of the Bay of Quinte, Harrington becomes the third Ontario-born captain in Belleville Sens history and the most local in terms of distance to their hometown.

“It’s a huge honour and a privilege to wear a letter on a professional hockey team. We’ve got a lot of leaders on our team, and to be recognized as the captain is a big thrill for me and my family,” said Harrington. “I said when I signed here last year that it’s like a full-circle moment, because it’s the closest I’ve played to home since I left to play junior in London. So to play every day in a rink I played in growing up, it’s a really cool feeling.”

“The thing about Harry is – he just goes about everything he does the right way. From the way he treats and respects his teammates and staff, the time he spends in the gym continuing to prepare and push himself, the way he practices, his overall professionalism,” said Belleville Sens Head Coach Andrew Campbell. “Those are all the qualities we want in our leader, and that’s why Harry was our choice as Captain. He is a great example for all of our players to learn from and to follow moving forward.”

Harrington will don the ‘C’ tonight for the first time when the Senators host the Lehigh Valley Phantoms (AHL Affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers) at CIBC Place to kick off the club’s annual Hockey Fights Cancer Weekend presented by CIBC.
