Game Recap

Senators beat Rocket 6-2 for third straight win

November 27, 2021

The Belleville Senators are officially on their first winning streak of the season, defeating the Laval Rocket, 6-2 on Friday night at Place Bell. Steadily returning to the .500 mark, winning three gamers in a row and six of their last eight.

Jake Lucchini, Cedric Pare, Egor Sokolov, Cole Reinhardt, Matthew Wedman, and Chris Wilkie tallied and Mads Sogaard made 32 saves on 34 shots in the victory. Tobie Bisson and Corey Schueneman both scored for the Rocket.

Able to neutralize a strong Laval fore-check through the game’s early portions, Belleville withstood an early 1-0 deficit. The Senators took back control when Jake Lucchini put home a rebound for his team-leading eighth goal. The Senators would rattle off four unanswered goals before the Rocket would answer back with their second goal of the night. Chris Wilkie ended any hopes of a comeback moments later, chasing Laval starting goalie Cayden Primeau.

Head Coach Troy Mann credits his team’s preparation in their ability to hold off Laval’s early pressure. “We talked about weathering the storm early and felt that since they hadn’t played since last Saturday, and with a full week of practice, they would come out with a lot of energy and feed off their crowd, which they normally do. I thought we weathered that; Sogaard made some big saves early, and then we were able to get our game going.”

Despite not being able to capitalize on a 5-on-3 man advantage late in the first period, Mann believes the opportunities created changed the game’s momentum.BSens Heatherington at LAV Nov 26 2021

Twelve Senators added at least one point: veteran defenseman Dillon Heatherington led the charge with four assists, followed by forwards Egor Sokolov (1G, 2A) and Chris Wilkie (1G, 1A), whose point streaks extended to three games. Rookie Cedric Pare continues to collect offensive numbers quietly, he’s now had consecutive multi-point games.
