Game Recap

Sens open back-to-back in Cleveland with resounding win

November 6, 2021

Five Senators scored their first goals of the season en route to Belleville’s first road victory of the campaign.

Friday night’s 6-2 win at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse also snapped a three game winless streak and saw Mads Sogaard come within 7:00 of his first career American Hockey League shutout.

Cole Reinhardt, Erik Brannstrom, Kole Sherwood, Scott Sabourin and Parker Kelly all found the net for the first time in 2021-22, while Jake Lucchini added his team-leading sixth to round out the scoring. Lucchini was also named the games first star (one goal, one assist), with Brannstrom (one goal, one assist) and Sogaard (23 saves on 25 shots) rounding out the three standout efforts.

Lucchini opened the scoring under five minutes into the first period, with a short handed marker and Brannstrom followed that up about 10 minutes later, finishing a two-on-one after a feed from Roby Jarventie. Sherwood rounded out the first period scoring, blasting a one-timer against his former team, following a nice feed from Matt Wedman behind the net.

Belleville would strike three more times in the third.

Reinhardt beat Daniil Tarasov with a deflection, Sabourin hit the net withe Cleveland’s goalie pulled for the extra attacker and Kelly capitalized on a late-game turnover.

A resilient Senators penalty kill also fended off six of seven power plays against, with Belleville’s man advantage unit counting once.
