Landon Marleau touched off the scoring for Wellington and then finished it with the lone goal of the shootout as the Dukes edged St. Mike’s 3-2 at the Duke Dome. After a rebound goal was deposited home by Gavin Whiston shy of seven minutes into the first, Marleau used a Buzzer player as a ricochet to beat Erik Maki at the 10:16 mark to even the score. The goal was the Los Gatos, California native’s league-leading ninth of the year, assisted by Jayden Levesque and Ryland Harvey. Wellington jumped out in front early in the second thanks to its outstanding goaltender taking charge with a fantastic save. Riley robbed the Buzzers point blank before youngster Austin Ottenhof, in his first OJHL game, raced away to set up Kasen Beitz for a quick one-timer up high on Maki at 3:34 of the period. Wellington’s gritty effort made the lead hold up until the waning stages of the game, when Caiden Clair cleaned up a rebound on a powerplay, taking advantage of an otherwise fairly disciplined game from the Dukes to knot the score at two and send the contest to overtime. The Dukes’ best chance came on a deflected shot that was paddled away by a sliding Maki. Marleau went top bunk with the first shootout shot and after a review, the goal stood as the eventual winner. Joseph Ferraro, Josh D’Addario and Tyler Clark all failed to beat Riley, as he and the Dukes sealed their sixth win in nine games to begin the season. Riley made 28 saves in the victory. SUNDAY, OCTOBER 4, 2026 ROYALS – 3 DUKES – 2 (OT) A strong effort from a goaltender making his OJHL debut was important in the Wellington Dukes earning a point from the OJHL’s last undefeated team. Mason Raycroft made 30 saves in his first start as the Dukes fell 3-2 in overtime versus the Markham Royals on Sunday afternoon at the new Honey and Barry Memorial Arena. For the third straight game, Kasen Beitz got on the board, banging home a cross-ice saucer pass from Austin Ottenhof much like he did on Friday. The late marker in the opening period was also assisted by Justin Doak. After Markham replied quickly with a tying goal sniped top shelf by Hughston Hurt, the Royals jumped ahead at the 6:40 mark of the second through Athan Miwa on the powerplay. Landon Marleau extended a goal streak of his own to six consecutive games with the equalizer a little more than two minutes into the third from Zach Mascard and Jayden Levesque to set up the bonus frame. Flying in from the right wing, Yehor Staiko put a hard, high shot over Raycroft’s glove at the 2:17 mark of OT to keep Markham’s pristine season-opening win streak intact at 12 straight games. Wellington meanwhile, falls to 6-2-1-1, earning its 14th point of the campaign so far. TUESDAY OCTOBER 6, 2026 DUKES – 2 FLYERS – 1 (SO) Dryden Riley continues to be the ‘King of the Throne’ between the posts for the Wellington Dukes. The Trenton resident flummoxed and flustered a strong Leamington Flyers outfit with 48 saves on Tuesday at the Showcase in a 2-1 shading. Riley made 14 stops in the first, 16 in the second and 13 in the third, adding five more in overtime for good measure to keep Wellington in the game. Kasen Beitz popped his fourth of the season, his fourth game in a row with a goal on a breakaway at 7:25 of the first, before Chase Pettipiece gave Riley his only regulation blemish halfway through the second frame on a powerplay. Leamington’s Eric Muxlow and Wellington’s Zach Mascard both scored in the shootout before 16-year-old Quinte Red Devils graduate Austin Ottenhof buried the winner in the fifth round on Flyers goalie Tomas Kniazew. A Riley stop off Josh Cleary stamped a huge win for the Dukes, who improve to 7-2-1-1 on the season with 16 points and keep pace near the top of the East Conference. Wellington now faces the Burlington Cougars at 4 p.m. Wednesday. TRENTON GOLDEN HAWKS FRIDAY, OCTOBER 2, 2026 HAWKS – 8 WARRIORS – 2 A dominant Friday night was thoroughly enjoyed by the Trenton Golden Hawks at the ‘Hangar.’ The Hawks pumped five goals into the Toronto Warriors cage in the first and cruised from there, finishing with an 8-2 victory in the third game in 10 days head-to-head Kale Mace notched a hat trick and four points to lead the charge for the Hawks, with Beckett Ewart, Mason Musclow, Wyatt Gregory, Kaiden Harmon and Liam Fisher all notching goals. Ewart and Gregory each notched three points, while Fisher and Musclow picked up a goal and an assist, Christian Sedgwick posted his first two points as a Hawk, and Matt Hicks and Ethan Brassard also added a pair of helpers as part of the attack. After Trenton shut the Warriors out for almost 170 minutes, Marcus Carter finally broke the goose egg with two in the third, but it was too far gone for Toronto. Nolan Nicoll made 26 saves for his second straight win versus the Warriors. Trenton climbed over .500 with a 4-3-1-0 record with the win. The Hawks will enjoy the rest of the weekend off prior to a huge Monday tilt with the Western Conference juggernaut Collingwood Blues at 4 p.m. MONDAY, OCTOBER 5, 2026 BLUES – 6 HAWKS – 1 The Trenton Golden Hawks only matchup this season versus the Collingwood Blues was a lopsided affair against them. Five unanswered Collingwood goals led to a 6-1 result at the OJHL Governor’s Showcase in Niagara Falls Monday. After Atom Thususka got loose for a backhand deke on Hayden Jeffery to open the scoring in the first, Hawks captain Wyatt Gregory found the net with five minutes remaining in the period. The Cobourg product buried his second of the season immediately off a fast rush stop by Owen Edwards, assisted by Michael Domina and Charlie Gage. The Blues went ahead on John Aldys marker with less than three minutes to go in the period and never broke stride. Nathan Omeri, Wyatt Jinman, Talan Palmer and Will Hughes all hit the back of the net to punctuate this convincing win. The Hawks will shake this loss off quickly, as they head into a meeting with the Oakville Blades at 2 p.m. Tuesday. The Wellington Dukes are also in action at 5 p.m. versus the Leamington Flyers for their first of two on the Showcase. TUESDAY, OCTOBER 6, 2026 BLADES – 5 HAWKS – 2 It was a tough OJHL Governor’s Showcase for the Trenton Golden Hawks. A day after getting shelled by the Collingwood Blues, the Hawks dropped a 5-2 decision to the Oakville Blades on Tuesday afternoon in Niagara Falls. Trenton fell behind 1-0 after the first and 3-0 after two before getting on the board early in the third. Kale Mace scored off a rush set up by Ethan Brassard and Hunter Spicher just under two minutes into the period to get the Hawks in flight, the Oshawa, Ont. native’s seventh of the year. Less than four minutes later, Kaiden Harmon evaded an Oakville check before hitting Ryan Chamberlain, who whipped a shot past Vaughn Barr in the Blades crease for his fourth of the season. The comeback hopes were dashed by Oakville’s undisputed player of the game, Marcus Chiella, who completed a hat trick with a powerplay goal, before Lincoln Cumming tacked on extra insurance in the late stages for the Blades victory. Nolan Nicoll kicked out 22 of 26 shots in the loss. The Hawks will embark on a return trip home to meet the Buffalo Jr. Sabres for the one and only time this season at 7:30 p.m. Friday. PICTON PIRATES THURSDAY, OCTOBER 1, 2026 PIRATES – 7 PANTHERS – 3 Joey Coates steered the proverbial ship for the Picton Pirates last Thursday at home. The veteran forward notched a hat trick as the Pirates beat Port Hope for their second victory on home ice in as many games. Keenan Wiles had two goals and an assist, while Jaxson Payne put away his second and third goals of the season. Ben Smith added three assists, with Gerrit Kempers adding two and one each being assessed to Blake Brown, Caleb Doyle, Kirk Stevenson, Ty Mulder and Isaih More. Nick Parodo made 20 saves in the victory. TUESDAY, OCTOBER 6, 2026 CHIEFS – 8 PIRATES – 6 Another high-scoring game went in the opposite direction for Picton Tuesday night. Despite having a lead of 5-2 at one point, the Pirates couldn’t stop the Lakefield Chiefs wave of attack, allowing six unanswered goals to fall back into the loss column. Smith and Kempers each notched three points (goal and two assists) and Coates continued his hot run by finding the net twice. Wiles and More added two helpers and Doyle chipped in with one. Cohen Bedore was busy in net, making 34 saves on 42 shots. The Pirates record now sits at 2-2-2-2 with eight points, sitting them fifth in the Tod Division.
