WEDNESDAY

It was a busy night on the scoreboard at Port Credit Arena, but the Wellington Dukes ended up coming out on the wrong end of a 6-4 scoreline versus the Mississauga Chargers on Wednesday night.

The unit of Zach Mascard, Landon Marleau and Jayden Levesque combined for nine points as the Dukes lost leads of 3-1 and 4-2 in the contest as the Chargers rattled off four unanswered goals.

That line wasted little time getting on the board first for the Dukes, with Mascard burying a rebound just 52 seconds into the game.

Mississauga capitalized eight seconds into a powerplay on a marker from Zachary Pereira, but the Dukes managed to hit back on a man advantage of their own at 9:15.

Sammy Longo worked to the front of the Charger cage and jammed a Maclean Chisholm feed through Chargers starter Lukas Boudreau.

Freshly returned from the BCHL, Levesque upped the lead to 3-1 with a clean snapshot upstairs on the blocker-side to chase Boudreau from the net in favour of James Meredith.

Mississauga cut the deficit back to one on a scrambly goal from Frank Lecce late in the period, but Marleau restored the two-goal lead at the 3:07 mark of the second by hammering home a slip pass from Mascard in close on Meredith for his third of the season

The game’s tides shifted at that point, with the Chargers scoring twice in 13 seconds courtesy of Robert Knight and Luca Morano to even the score and Meredith settling things down in the Mississauga crease.

Mississauga’s momentum continued in the third with an early strike from Milo Tian and a breakaway insurance finisher from Alexander Loschiavo.

Dryden Riley made 40 saves in the losing cause as the Dukes dropped to 2-1 on the young OJHL season.

FRIDAY

The Dukes hung tough against a solid Newmarket Hurricanes squad, earning a point in a 3-2 shootout loss on Friday night.

The Dukes were outshot 48-28 on home ice, with the play of Dryden Riley being the difference-maker in a tight contest with 45 saves.

The two teams traded markers in the first, with Georgi Garimov cruising in and beating Riley clean over the blocker less than two minutes into the night and Justin Doak tying the score late on the powerplay from Zach Mascard and Landon Marleau on a loose puck in front of the Newmarket net.

Making his Dukes debut, Jordan Mayo brought plenty of skill and speed to the table and gave his new hometown fans something to cheer about by chipping a Mascard feed off the crossbar and in behind Alex Armellin at 15:39 of the second, with Jayden Levesque adding a second helper.

Presley Allain buried an Angelo Protopapas feed 4:45 into the third, triggering a back-and-forth third period with several chances being denied by Riley and Armellin.

Overtime solved nothing and it was Josh Giordano that was the lone shooter to score in the shootout, Wellington’s first since 2014.

Dukes shooters Levesque, Mayo and Mascard all couldn’t convert, with Mascard ringing the last shot off the post.

The Dukes fall to 2-1-1 on the season, but do pick up a point in the loss.

SUNDAY

Two more first goals were registered for the Wellington Dukes as they doubled the Pickering Panthers 4-2 on Sunday night.

Oliver Coyle and Ryland Harvey both notched their first OJHL markers as part of four unanswered from the Dukes to improve to 3-1-1 on the season.

The Panthers got it going first, with a case of great goaltending at one end leading to offensive success at the other for their opening goal.

Landon Marleau made a nifty dangle to elude a Pickering defender sliding into his path, before feeding across the goalmouth to Jayden Levesque, who was denied by the quick movement of Jacob Gibbons.

Moments later, the Panthers struck through Cayden O’Hearn at 17:40, then added a second marker a little more than two minutes later on a shot from Lewis Hergaarden that flopped over Riley to bump the lead up going into the first intermission.

The Dukes found their early offence in the second, with Marleau pulling off another nifty dangle before beating Gibbons through the legs for his fourth of the season on a powerplay from Zach Mascard just 1:16 into the period.

Coyle pierced through Gibbons for the score-knotter from Mike Albert and Cooper Woron at the 3:29 marker.

At 6:48, Harvey’s first was of the boomerang variety, with an initial shot from the point getting blocked before he got it back and ripped another one that got through a screen and eluded Gibbons for the Dukes first lead of the night.

Sammy Longo salted the win by deflecting a Presley Kelly shot into the twine 2:08 into the third on another man advantage.

Blake Berthiaume added an assist on the Belleville product’s third of the season.

Riley did the rest, making 14 stops in a busy final frame and finishing with 33 saves in total.

The Dukes will look to continue their solid road efforts in Milton on Tuesday at 7 p.m, before returning home to meet North York Friday at 7:30 p.m.

TRENTON GOLDEN HAWKS (OJHL)

FRIDAY

If there was a trophy for wildest start to a season for any team in the OJHL so far, the Trenton Golden Hawks would take it.

The Hawks and Lindsay Muskies pumped home 15 goals to fill the nets at the Lindsay Rec Complex in a 8-7 Muskies overtime victory in Trenton’s season opener.

The Hawks led 4-1 after the first on goals from returnee Mason Musclow and newcomers Liam Fisher, Evan Norris and Ethan Brassard before the ‘Fish’ stormed back to tie in the second.

After Lindsay’s three unanswered goals, Kale Mace potted Trenton’s fifth of the night past Milo Slayer with 25 seconds left in the middle frame on a powerplay to give the Hawks the lead back going into the third.

Mason Quinn for the Muskies and Trenton’s Kaiden Harmon scored less than a minute apart early in the third before Lindsay climbed into the lead for the first time in the game on tallies from Quinte Red Devils graduate Jack Foley and Ty Rupnow.

Trenton refused to quit though and managed to even the score again through Beckett Ewart’s equalizer with 1:17 left in the third with the help of Brassard’s third assist of the game.

One shot was all that was needed in the extra frame from the Muskies to win it, coming from Shane Brown 1:22 into the overtime period, sending the home opener crowd away with smiles.

Hayden Jeffery stopped 37 shots as the Muskies edged the Hawks 45-44.

Mace and Brassard each led the offence with four points.

SATURDAY

Another pile of goals was scored in a second straight Trenton Golden Hawks loss to open their season.

After watching the Toronto Patriots raise their 2025-26 Buckland Cup championship banner pre-game on Saturday, the Hawks went on to be outgunned 7-4 at Westwood Arena.

The Hawks struck first on Liam Fisher’s second of the season from Evan Norris, but the Patriots wound up leading after the opening period thanks to a goal midway through from Max Cervjakovs and a buzzer beater from Owen McGuckin.

16 seconds after Dylan Nobili made it 3-1 for Toronto early in the second, returning forward Beckett Ewart answered with a tap-in on the backhand from Kaiden Harmon and Kale Mace for his second in as many games.

Trenton stuck with the Pats after going back down by two on a Tate Collins, managing to knot the score 4-4 on Wyoming product Charlie Gage’s first as a Hawk, followed Quinte Red Devils graduate Ryan Foley’s first count in the OJHL.

All hopes of getting into the intermission on even footing went out the window however, with the Pats yet again slipping one home before the clock ran out on a powerplay via Ivan Bazunov with only three seconds remaining.

That goal proved to be huge for the hosts, as they used the momentum from it to add two more through Lucas Balanyk and McGuckin (into an empty net) to finish off the Hawks.

Fisher led the offence with a goal and an assist, Mason Musclow and Logan Bennett contributed solo helpers and Nolan Nicoll made 37 saves on 43 saves in his debut for the Hawks, who fall to 0-2 on the new season.

They will welcome their hometown fans back to the Duncan McDonald Community Gardens for their home opener Friday at 7:30 p.m. versus the Stouffville Spirit.

PICTON PIRATES (PJHL)

SATURDAY

The defending Tod Division champion Frankford Huskies required a shootout to win their home opener over the Picton Pirates on a thrilling Saturday night.

Former Trenton Golden Hawk and new Husky Thomas Kuipers notched a hat trick in his first PJHL game and ex-Wellington Duke Evan Erwin buried the lone goal of the shootout to cinch the win in his first game of his second stint in a Frankford uniform.

Gage Butcher added the other regulation goal for Frankford, Brock Davy and Deke Osterhout added two assists each and Erwin, Riley Grimmon and goaltender Liam Boyer drew single helpers.

Keenan Wiles had a goal an assist for Picton, while Isiah More, Jake Vandenburg, and Jaxson Payne each scored once.

Other assists went to Kempers, Caleb Doyle and Blake Brown.

Boyer made 28 saves, with Charlie Vos making four stops in a brief appearance and Cohen Bedore denied 45 Huskies opportunities.

SUNDAY

Coulter Trudeau buried the winner in the fourth round of the shootout as the Trent Hills Thunder got their 2026-27 season off on the right foot.

Logan Vale was the backbone of the win in his Thunder debut, making 46 saves in regulation and overtime and kicking out all five Picton shootout attempts.

Matthew Hinan got Trent Hills on the board in the first with a little more than eight minutes to go in the period from Lucas Desautl and Tait Rosborough.

Joey Coates buried his first of the season at 4:35 of the second, assisted by Kempers.

The goaltenders then took over, with Vale and Picton’s Nick Parodo (28 saves in the game) shutting the door through the rest of regulation and seven minutes of extra time.

Trent Hills has a winning record for the first time in their history since rebranding from the Campbellford Rebels, while Picton falls to 0-2.
