Weekly Recap: Belleville Sens ready to ring in the New Year
January 3, 2023
Following a difficult stretch to close out the 2022 calendar year, the Belleville Senators are staying positive as they hit the road to face the Rochester Americans (Wednesday) and Syracuse Crunch (Friday) before returning home on Saturday night to finish the week by hosting the Manitoba Moose.
LAST WEEK’S RESULTS:
Monday, Dec. 26: Belleville 2 at Toronto 3
In spite of a clutch 33-save performance from Mads Sogaard, tallies from rookie forward Joe Carroll (the first of his AHL career) and Egor Sokolov, the Senators were left looking for answers and an equalizer as they fell 3-2 at Scotiabank Arena on Boxing Day.
Wednesday, Dec.28: Belleville 2 vs Toronto 4
Although a tough start hindered the Senators, who trailed 4-1 after the forty minutes of play, Belleville fought to the end showing their resilience by outshooting the Marlies 14-2 in the third. They even found the scoreboard late as Scott Sabourin redirected home his eighth of the season with 15 seconds remaining in regulation time.
Friday, Dec. 30: Belleville 3 at Rochester 5
Despite a pair of goals from Ridly Greig and the first of the season from Jonathan Aspirot, Belleville was handed their third straight loss as the Senators were unable to keep pace with Rochester, who pulled away in the final frame.
Saturday, Dec.31: Belleville 3 at Utica 4 (OTL)
Another two-goal effort from Ridly Greig proved insufficient as the Senators couldn’t complete a comeback and earn a victory on New Year’s Eve as they fell 4-3 in overtime to the Utica Comets.
