Game Day Build-Up: Senators at Rocket – November 10, 2021

The Set-Up:

The Belleville Senators are looking to start their first official win streak of the 2021-22 season tonight. After a loss to Rochester and two wins against Cleveland last week, the Sens begin a busy stretch of three games in less than four days, tonight in Laval. Belleville has picked up four wins and six losses over the first 10 games of the season, while Laval has lost four games in a row, their last being a 4-2 defeat at Utica last Sunday.

Previous History:

This is meeting number three-of-12 for the Senators and Rocket this season and the clubs haven’t seen each other since opening weekend, when they split their first two games. Laval won 6-2 in their home opener at Place Bell on October 15, with Belleville exacting some revenge at CAA Arena, in a 5-2 win of their own the following night. Lifetime, the Senators are 22-21-1-2 against the Rocket, with a 9-13-1-0 record in Laval.

Roster Notes:

Belleville is still battling about a half dozen injuries, with a handful of players including Egor Sokolov, Erik Brannstrom and Filip Gustavsson all in Ottawa, as the NHL club deals with some COVID-19 issues and other illnesses. Former Kingston Frontenac’s standout Spencer Watson will make his Belleville Sens debut tonight, after being called up from the Indy Fuel (ECHL). Fellow call-up Hugo Roy will play his second game for Belleville, after joining the Sens on short notice in Cleveland last weekend from Atlanta (ECHL). Mads Sogaard is expected to start in goal. Full lineup details will be announced prior to puck drop.

Who to Watch:

There’s been a lot of chatter early in the season about Jake Lucchini, but for good reason, as the Trail, BC native leads the Senators in scoring. He also has two goals in two games against the Rocket, who traded him to Belleville at the start of the campaign. Forward Matt Wedman also has a couple of goals this season against Laval, with Pontus Aberg chipping with one goal and one assist in the season series.

For Laval, highly touted prospect Cole Caufield has played in two games since being returned to Laval from the Montreal Canadiens. He’s earned one assist, with six shots on goal and had a -2 rating in both of his first two games back in Laval.
