game day Share this Game Day Build-Up: Sens and Pens battle again on Family Fun Day January 12, 2025 Belleville Senators Game Day Build-Up Jan.12/25 vs Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (AHL Affiliate: Pittsburgh Penguins) The Set Up: Players need to have a short memory during the American Hockey League season. Positive results can come and go over seven months and 72 games, and you never know what kind of circumstances your club, or others, might face from night to night. That’s where the Belleville Senators are headed into their matinee with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins at CAA Arena today, as they look for some payback on the Pens for their lopsided defeat on Friday while still battling through a flurry of roster moves and injuries both here in the Friendly City and with the NHL parent club in the Nation’s Capital. Belleville will have to stick to its physical style and lockdown the Penguins offence as they try to get back in the win column on home ice and halt Wilkes-Barre’s eight-game point streak on a Family Fun Day at CAA Arena. Previous History: Belleville’s loss to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Friday night drops their lifetime record against the Penguins to 4-5-0-0 and 1-4-0-0 at CAA Arena. Today’s game is the second of four in the season series and of three in an eight-day span, with the Sens set to visit the Pens at Mohegan Arena next Saturday (January 18). The Senators have a 3-1-0-0 overall record in Wilkes-Barre since the AHL franchise moved from Binghamton ahead of the 2017-18 season. Roster Notes: There will likely be more movement within the organization today after longtime Belleville standout Cole Reinhardt left the NHL Sens game in Pittsburgh last night, and Belleville forward Tyler Boucher left Friday’s game against Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in the first period. Jamieson Rees and Malcolm Subban were still on the injured list heading into this weekend’s games. Along with those who were hurt, defensemen Max Guenette and Nicholas Matinpalo, along with forwards Zack Ostapchuk, Matt Highmore, and Zack MacEwen, all remain with the NHL club in Ottawa. Who to Watch: Even with the Senators alternating wins and losses of late, forward Jan Jenik has pieced together a three-game point streak (one goal, two assists), including an assist on Belleville’s only goal of Friday’s game, a beauty, scored by Keean Washkurak. Hayden Hodgson had the other assist on that Washkurak goal, giving him points in back-to-back games (one goal, one assist). He was a goal shy of the “Gordie Howe Hat Trick” on Friday after the helper and an entertaining tilt with former Senator Boko Imama in the second period. Veteran forward Boris Katchouk has been the most productive Penguins lately, with points in five straight games (one goal, five assists), including a goal in Friday’s win at Belleville. The 26-year-old from Waterloo, Ontario has 25 points in 25 games with the Penguins after signing an AHL deal in the offseason. 2019 Penguins 7th round draft pick Valtteri Puustinen also scored against the Sens on Friday and has points in four straight games (one goal, four assists), while forward Sam Poulin scored twice to kick off the weekend. At the Rink: It’s Family Fun Day at CAA Arena, with a family-friendly 3:00 p.m. puck drop and face painting, games, and activities for the whole family. After the game, the entire Belleville Sens roster will be available for a free autograph signing in McFarland’s Pub, beginning about 25 minutes after the final buzzer. The souvenir and novelty item sale also continues through today at The Locker Room Store, with 25% off souvenirs like Smashcots, foam fingers, light sticks, pucks, flags, mini sticks and more at the Gate 2 Merchandise Stand or the Locker Room Store inside the Quinte Sports & Wellness Centre.
